[Eddie paces as he talks. There's a cast on his arm with the word loser written in black, with a red V written over the s to spell lover.]

Hello? Can you hear me? We're all kidnapping victims here; you guys know that right?

This nanite stuff sucks. There are tiny germ sized robots crawling around inside us! Something's gotta be powering them. They could be hanging out in our stomachs eating our food. Or they could be eating us and making tiny little holes inside our bodies. They could all build up in one place and block off the blood flowing through our arteries and our veins. Or build up in our organs, our lungs and our brains! And, our bodies are mostly water. They could be rusting inside us.

[He stops pacing and starts scratching his face with his cast-free hand]

I think I'm allergic to them! Everything's itchy. I'm gonna break out into hives!

[He starts wheezing and rubs his chest.]

I could be allergic to the tattoo too. I'm just a kid. I shouldn't have one. I think it's starting to swell up. I could have an infection. Or a blood disease. I don't trust these government people to be clean.

[The wheezing continues and his voice becomes strained with each word. He takes his inhaler out of a fanny pack and uses it, only speaking again when he's breathing is back to normal.]

How are we supposed to deal with this shit?

Yeah. All the time. There were so many missing kids posters that they'd be hung up on top of each other.

[He manages a small smile.]

But that won't happen anymore. My friends and I found the monster that made kids go missing and we killed IT.

Killed what?

[ Because of course he'd ask.]

It. That's what we called the monster. He was also called Pennywise. He was this weird clown monster. But not always a clown and he could make kids see stuff they were afraid of.

Oh...That sounds really bad.

How did you kill it?

We all teamed up in his lair. He had a bunch of stuff he'd taken from the kids he killed, like a baseball bat, bike chains, and we used them as weapons. I kicked him right in the face. Bill figured out that It couldn't hurt us if we weren't afraid and we killed It.

[ An incredibly hands-on approach to dealing with a monster.]

Sounds really scary. [ Even if Adam’s ideas of scary and not are all turned around these days.]

Did you ever find the missing kids?

Having my friends there made it less scary.

[Eddie looks down sadly.]

I found their bodies. They were floating in the air. They all floated down after we killed It.

[ Adam doesn’t quite know how to respond to that last part. Death isn’t really...something he thinks about much. Even though, considering some elements of his life, you’d probably think otherwise.

He’s quiet for a moment.]

But you got the monster. That way it won’t happen to anyone else, right?

Yeah, we did. And we made a promise to kill It again, if It ever comes back. Not just a promise. A blood oath. See?

[He holds up his hand with the scar.]

Even if we're really old, we'll fight It again.

[ Adam seems vaguely impressed by the scar. ]

So it didn't really die?

I think It did. I don't know for sure.

It had these things called deadlights. When people get caught in them, they see the future. My friend Bev got caught in them and saw all of us fighting It again when we were old, like our parent's ages.

[ It's very messed up that any of them had to go through it, and that people were hurt and killed, but it's fascinating to hear about.

He's cautious about his next question. ]

Is Bev here too?

[He shakes his head.]

Nah, not yet. So far, my only friend from home that's here is Richie.

[But he's hanging onto the belief that all his friends will be together again.]

[ Adam nods.]

At least you have each other. And lots of people here are nice, they’ll help you out too.
