I think... we're all pretty content to pretend last month didn't happen, but, uh... Being there just made me think, that like, it's so weird to be in a world where people being nice is more common than people being shitty again...
[ a pause. he seems to be trying to find the right words here. ]
Do you think a world like that can change?
Like... if people hate you so much, or like, if they wanna use what makes you special as a weapon, can that ever get better? Or, like... at some point, does it really just make more sense to pick everybody up and move somewhere far away, and like, just... hope nobody comes after you?

It's... y'know, I get it. A little. Some days I feel like a bomb waiting to go off, it makes sense for people to be scared, but...
[ he bites his lip. ]
It's not our fault. We didn't ask for this.

I know who I sound like.
[ Mostly, cnc left her feeling tired and fed up. And also like that sort of future is inevitable. ]

Are you alright, Joshua Foley?

Yeah, I'm good.
[ good-ish. ]
I was just wondering if our world could ever end up being like this one. Or, y'know... if it's always gonna be like that one.

Worlds live and worlds die on a smile, a kind word, and a moment of peace.
and here is the thing, Josh.
There is no such thing as safe.
You cannot safeguard people against people. You can try, but you will inevitably fail.
The only way to make a difference, is to change how things are.

[ he frowns. ]
I don't agree with that. I - I mean, yeah, sure. You can't guard against every eventuality, but there's a difference between that and, you know, a bus full of kids dying and nobody giving a shit about it.

If Josh remembers who they were in the City, he knows exactly who she is, and maybe avoiding him would be more prudent. But she can't, any more than she did Adam. Not if she wants to be better than that. ]
I don't think it's beyond hope. But I don't know how much it will take to make a difference, either.
[ She discarded one moral after another, erased line after line, and it still wasn't enough. She wonders if that was the wrong way to go about it, except it sounds like the X-Men tried to take the high road and that didn't work either. ]
There were people, there, who managed to run away from it. But they were still hiding, and I don't... That's not a life anyone should be forced to live.
...Krakoa sounds a little more stable. Power in numbers, political leverage, that makes a difference. But people still have to choose between it and any kind of life they managed to make before.

I think maybe falling back and regrouping is, um... maybe better than trying to stick it out in the world. Build ourselves up, and then, maybe try again when we're on more equal footing.
