[ By all appearances, Wuxian looks as perky and cheerful as always. Maybe those who know him best would see past the smile to the sorrow and depression that's a constant companion. ]

So! Shijie, Jiang Cheng, and I are going to be shopping for our first dinner in the new house. It's coming up quick and she thought a nice dinner for everyone would be nice.

[ Yep, little brother, you have been voluntold to help get groceries. ]

If anyone has a special dish they want made, let one of us know.

[Oh this must be the ‘shijie’ person. Miu flinches in surprise, having not really thought any of them would be able to figure out how to jump into conversations here or anything.]

Oh, um... I guess if someone’s keeping an eye on things it won’t be too much of a disaster. Maybe.

[She pauses a moment, eyeing Yanli, careful and curious] You’re... ‘Shijie’ then?

[She's a very good student.]

I would never let them spoil a good meal, I promise you.

[And then a little nod.] I'm Jiang Yanli. Pleased to meet you.

At least someone has sense around here.

[She pauses, considering something, and then bows, polite even if it’s to a screen.]

I’m Lan Miu. [It feels strange to say, her heart fluttering with anxiety and excitement at having said it out loud like that. But there’s no inter-dimensional Lan Police busting down a door to tell her she’s wrong and her expression looks pleased and proud.] Hanguang-jun is my father.

I should hope one of us does. By all technicalities, I am the oldest sibling, someone had to keep them in line.

[Oh!

She props up her device and extends her hands to bow slightly.]

Pleased to meet you, Lan Miu. I didn't know he had any children but I am glad to meet you. Should you need anything at all, feel free to call on me.

[She hesitates, just for a moment, and then speaks up a bit sheepishly] Ah, well.. Adopted. I’m from—Another world, originally. And a country called Japan. But Hanguang-jun was nice enough to take me in and decided to teach me when we arrived here.

[And because she’s curious, she adds:] What does ‘Shijie’ mean? Do I call you that too?

I see, that would explain it. I'm also a good deal behind everyone I know. By my reckoning, we've only just left Cloud Recesses but my brothers can recall that I marry and have a son. I could hardly guess either way how you were related.

[It fits though. She wasn't as close to the Lan sect but what she does know, it definitely sounds like Hanguang-Jun.]

I'm his older sworn sister, that's why he calls me that. His parents were friends of my father. After they passed, he was adopted by our family. You're welcome to call me Yanli, or Jiang Yanli. Some will call me Maiden Jiang. I won't fuss over your choice.

Ahh, yeah, I’ve seen that happening a lot. People from all over the place... It’s stupidly confusing, right? [She tilts her head curiously.] Are they here too? Your husband and son?

[But she nods with a soft ‘mm’ of understanding.] Then, you can just call me ‘Miu’. The world I’m from is pretty close to this one—at least, in terms of technology and all that. If you need any help about history or technology or whatever, I can help you out. Most of the stuff’s pretty much the same.

My son was. He recently left. Jin Ling, if you knew him.

[She didn't know him as long as she'd like but she misses him.]

Miu. Pleased to meet you, Miu. And thank you, I'll be sure not to become too much of a bother. Thankfully, my brothers have been helping a great deal. And I was taught to use most functions of my phone when I arrived.
