Good afternoon, fellow imPorts. It is with considerable regret that I must inform you today that Miles Edgeworth, caretaker of the fund for Unsettled imPorts, has returned home recently. I have been holding off on making this announcement for as long as possible in the hopes that it would not be necessary, however it seems as if this is truly the case.

I am sure that those who were close to Mr. Edgeworth were already aware, however given his business, this is a matter that concerns more than just his close personal relations.

For those of you who are unaware, part of Mr. Edgeworth's business was managing a non-profit fund for Unsettled imPorts so that those who were wary of registering-- particularly children and teenagers with little other means of supporting themselves-- might have some security, as well as helping to find jobs for such imPorts.

Mr. Edgeworth left very clear instructions that his business was to be transferred to a Mr. Phoenix Wright in the event of his departure; however, it seems that he too has either gone missing or returned home. In any case, I have not been able to locate him.

The initiative, however, was sound. I would like to reassure both those who donated to the fund and those Unsettled imPorts who were depending upon it that the initiative will continue, in keeping with the spirit of Mr. Edgeworth's hard work. However, I cannot manage it entirely on my own. Being seventeen and only a first year law student, I am neither considered a legal adult in this world nor familiar enough with the nitty gritty legal details that must be taken care of in the day-to-day. I therefore humbly request the help of any like-minded individual who would be willing to assist. The groundwork has all been done by Mr. Edgeworth, it should not be too difficult a task. [Not Mandrake; he's perfectly comfortable working within the system. But he wouldn't be an accomplished politician at age seventeen if he couldn't gracefully step around the opinions he disagreed with but didn't care enough about to argue.]

[Mandrake himself wouldn't have done it on his own initiative; to be honest, this is more sixty percent a grab for popularity and contacts, forty percent respect for Edgeworth himself, and zero percent actually caring about the plight of unsettled imPorts.]

Indeed. Since this world does not consider me to be legally an adult and my qualifications have not transferred, finding employment or affording university classes would be rather more difficult had I chosen not to register.

[That's not the only reason, but it's a good one.]

Why do you want to go to university here? Won't they teach you stuff that won't matter?

[Though that's veering way off her original line of thought.]

The rules of this world, as I understand them, are quite simple: to get a decent job that pays well, you need a university qualification. Therefore, I am going.

[He enjoys learning, too. But he wouldn't be wasting his time on university if he could have a decent job otherwise.]

That's right. Funds do rely on the regular and recurring good will of other imPorts, however. So it's not the most reliable or lucrative way of getting money... but better than nothing. Wouldn't you agree?

You think you're going to be here long enough to get one?

Maybe. Better would be the government not making us register for stuff they should be giving us anyway. Not like we asked to be kidnapped.

I might be, or I might not. Either way, academia is still a preferable existence to the customer service or hospitality industries, as far as I'm concerned.

On the contrary. I would like nothing more than to return home from this place. However, I must accept the possibility that it might not happen for some time, and plan accordingly.

... Back home I was a politician. I am working here towards that same goal. It is not my world, but... sooner or later the government will realise the need for an elected candidate to speak for their ever-growing imPort population. Then I can enact real change.

As a seventeen year old college student, however, it seems there is not much I can do in this world and be taken seriously.

[Politician. That'd explain it. The age is a surprise, but Trubel's been fending for herself long enough that "normal" considerations of age and capability don't occur to her so strongly that she'll write it off.]

If they let anyone speak for us. They could just try to shut us up instead.

Seventeen is pretty young for a politician. That's normal in your world?

They could. But it would be a bad move on their part.

No; not quite. I'm the youngest recorded by several years. However, the median age of those in the ministry does tend towards being much younger in my own world than here. It's a somewhat... cutthroat profession. Only the best survive to old age.

Why? Cause of the powers?

Take it that means literally cutthroat. I guess you're used to putting yourself at risk for it then.

[Which sounds more impressive than regular politics, she has to admit.]

Exactly. They don't want to admit it, but we have more power combined than they do. We are their biggest asset... and their biggest liability.

Indeed. Though it has been quite some time since anything truly risky happened in my vicinity. There were a number of attempts on my life when I first took office-- obviously unsuccessful. They soon learned I am not so easily done away with.

How many powers are actually that powerful, though?

[Even with the amount of importance and worth she places on her own, her status as a Grimm, she knows it's a pretty passive thing to be weighing up.]

But you're still young. It could keep getting worse. People don't just give up things like that.

You would be surprised. There was one young woman here who could manipulate the energy in all things around her, living or not. "The Force," I think she called it.

Some do not, true. But after you have thoroughly embarrassed someone twenty years older than yourself by easily rebuffing their attempts, they tend to be more wary of making a fool of themselves a second time.
