[For a few moments there's nothing but silence, as if the user hasn't realized the device is recording. Once they do, however, a clearly young feminine voice begins to speak.]

Oh, it's--

[She clears her throat and tries to sound professional, trying to put her best foot forward but that probably won't last long.] Hello to anyone listening, my name is Ysvali Zoaramstar. I understand that we were given this strange device to communicate with each other, that's very kind of them.

[There's a pause as she considers what to say next.] I do have some questions, they didn't seem too willing to answer. So busy, rushing me off to this house. I've never seen a house like this before. It's so strange and confining and--

Ah, I'm getting distracted. Um, so this school thing? I'm expected to go yes? What do they teach there? And this job? Did everyone get a job when they arrived? Do they really expect us to accept it? Do I have to accept it? [There's a bit of a whiny tone creeping into her voice but she seems to realize this and quickly switches gears.]

Does the word Bangrahr or djinn mean anything to anyone? If not it's not big deal. [She just wants to know if there's anyone from her own world here. Although she doesn't realize that djinn is a pretty common term to multiple worlds.

She gives a thoughtful hum before deciding that's it for now.] Thank you for your help.

I'm familiar with djinn, yes. Though it's been some time since I've spoken with one.

Only djinn? [That's a little perplexing. To her if one is familiar with one they should be familiar with the other as well.]

I've known thousands of different spirits, forgive me for not recalling all of their names.

[That hadn't been what she meant but she wasn't exactly clear so she's just going to let it go.]

I see. You are one such being?

Obviously. Spirits and humans don't tend to travel in the same social circles. Same as humans don't really talk with ants.

Um, anyway, about the job thing: you don't gotta accept but they'll probably kick you outta your house if you don't.

[She sighs, if he doesn't know how to pronounce it she's not going to bother since it means he's unfamiliar. When she speaks there's a bit of annoyance in her tone.]

I see. I have never worked before, I don't even know what this child-care is.

Ah, you're working there, too? I could show you the ropes. It's just like babysitting.

[djinnnout]

What is babysitting? Do we sit on babies?

[hostage]

[He snickers. Joke, right? That's a joke? ...Maybe it's not a joke. People seem to be coming here from all over.]

Okay, definitely don't sit on any babies. It means looking after 'em. Like, just watching 'em for a few hours, playing with 'em, making sure they don't get into trouble.

They teach math, science, literature. There's also gym class. You can learn other things if you want to.

I don't know what any of that is except for literature.

Math is numbers. Science is how everything works around you. Like nature and technology.

So what is what is expected? To sit and learn these things all day?

Yeah. That's what students do.

[ sort of tuning into the fifty questions portion, but the last part derails his initial reply. ]

Like genies? [ and a beat later: ] What kind of house are you used to?

[ is this the appropriate time for magic lamp questions, or. ]

Genies? [She's quiet for a moment.] Oh! Yes, like genies.

The houses back home are bigger, spacious. One does not feel so confined.

That's funny, I would've guessed the opposite. [ just give him one lamp joke. ]

At least you don't have to pay rent. Assuming you register, anyway— I think the free board gets scrapped if you don't.

['Scuse you, lamps are like separate dimensions, plenty of room.]

I don't know, they were not very talkative about these things. Just what to do and not to do seemed to be about it. [Although she zoned out on most of it.]

Technically, I know what djinn are. Beyond that, I don't have any experience with them; they're not something that actually exist in my world.

[Though his skepticism is definitely not as acute as it once was, thanks to this place.]

As for school, you don't have to go. [Spoken in the tone of "but why wouldn't you?"] I'm a student too, but it was optional on my part.

Hmmn, I see. Apparently it is a more common term than I had hoped.

I am curious about this world and I understand school would be the place to learn but it sounds boring.

You don't want it to be common?

[Boring? Looks like some thoughts on school will forever remain universal.] It can be, sometimes. But you'll learn a lot of things, some much more interesting than others. If you're already curious, you might find it easier than you think.

I had hoped it would not be so common, a term only found in my own world.

Hmmn, perhaps.
