[Audio] UN: Archon

[The audio seems to be being recorded from somewhere outside, the flow of traffic somewhere distant.]

I hath a query for you, fellow ImPorts, though one of less pressing concern than the conundrums others hath posed of late.

What is thine view of the arts of divination and prophecy? I hath come to understand that the intertwining of magic and science of mine own world is not the norm upon all of the stars and their reflections we hail from, even here upon this reflection of Earth it seems that they art of different schools entirely.

Thus being said, if any of you have an interest in divinations I would gladly do so for thee. Practicing to better attune to the flow of magics here shalt only benefit mine own mastery.

[A pause, as he considers his next set of questioning.]

Those of a more scholarly mindset amongst our numbers, is there a convocation of us anywhere? I hath found it... vexatious of late to attempt research with the libraries closing at night and wish to discuss theoretical matters with those of similar academic backgrounds.

Mine view of the mystick artes is that they are, and remain as such, pure folly.

okay i never read enough shakespeare to keep that up

magic is when someone flings around dangerous quantum physics formulas they barely understand and science is what smart people do

Divination... are you referring to the art of foretelling the future through magic?

[He's familiar with the concept, but not so much the actual applications of it.]
wro: Sometimes I look like I know what I'm doing (In charge)

I'm not certain the two can be so easily separated. After all, they both operate under similar principles, and as far as I know, neither the laws of science nor the laws of magic can be broken.

I've always figured that poking your nose into what the future holds never ends well. Not for the person asking, anyway.

Where I'm from, you're better off adjusting your sails when the storm comes than trying to figure out when the storm's supposed to be coming. If you don't mind the metaphor, anyhow.

[ Dang, that is some speechifying. ]

Sorry, you're kinda... hard for me to understand. Are you asking for help figuring out how magic works here? Or, like, looking for a wizard club?
khajidont: (Jaime - Talking)

Oh, you want science. You'll find a lot of scientists here. In fact, a close friend of mine happens to be an expert.

But where I'm from, magic and science? Two veeeeery different things. Sometimes they're even considered to be opposites.

[ The part about divination and magic doesn't catch Bean's interest. It's the part about searching for scholars that does. But he knows if he uses audio right off the bat, the guy will hear his child's voice and dismiss him rather than take him seriously.

So, text it is. ]

I can help you with astronomy. Chemistry is not my area of expertise.

The position of this Earth in space is somewhat different from my own, seeing as I come from approximately 200 years beyond this time point. But I know enough about where things are and where they should be.

Plenty of people call what I do precognition, so I'd say it's not impossible.

[Hell, he's seen enough things and enough powers to know very little isn't possible at this point.]

People not take you seriously back home?

[Is it because you talk like that?]

Definitely more the latter. To the point where you've almost stolen my catchphrase. It'd be a shame to have to sue you.

[Something he'd never actually do, nor does he have an actual catchphrase.]

Probably because most people who claim to see the future here are charlatans, pure and simple.

Oh, jeeze.

It's hard to know if it's real or not. There aren't a lot of things in this universe written in stone. Not even the things that had been proven to be written in stone countless of times through experiments.

Well, there is this phrase, "What goes up, must come down". It's a little more complicated than that, but if there is a source of gravity, objects are going to go towards it. On a planet like this one, for example, you can drop something over and over again, because there is enough gravity present to make it do so. The effect might be different where the gravitational force is weaker or stronger, but it will still happen. People have been doing that kind of experiment since ... ever.

So, that's one.

Then there is the law of conservation, where matter cannot be created or destroyed. Everything has to come from something else, even if it's been broken down into its original elemental particles or something like heat and pressure has transformed it. Like ice turning into water and then that becoming water vapor. That one has been studied for a number of decades, but it could still be proven wrong as we encounter more of the universe.
