1st š Video; UN: Estibien (it's hard to type with gloves)
[Never has Estinien found himself a fan of machines, mistrusting them greatly the more they resembled something that could think. Someone might call him a Luddite, and that someone would be right. However, even he knows he cannot go completely without using it in this world, though he would utterly strive to. He knows the benefits these strange machines offer, even if those benefits are ones he rarely seeks.
However, in this case...he cannot deny the necessity of such widespread communication. As the feed clicks on, the viewers are greeted with a man of long, shaggy, white hair. His unkempt bangs more or less covering his dark eyes, while the rest of it frames his long and pointed features. From either side of his head are pointed ears which would label him to most as an elf. He would correct them that he is an Elezen.
Also, the backdrop behind him is that of the sky, like he might be somewhere pretty high up. He is, actually, he's on the tallest building he could find in Heropa, because that's just...what he does.
His is an expression of forced stoicism, with the tinges of uncertainty and discomfort. He's never been a social person, and as stated previously, never one for machines such as these. This entire situation is utterly uncomfortable. As he speaks, his is a voice both low and gruff, with a bit of an underlying growl to it.]
...I seek an armorer.
[That's a good start...]
One that may yet be familiar with with dragon-blessed armor. 'Tis from ancient times, one forged through dragon's flame. 'Tis not a job for a noviceāeagerness does not beget skill.
[Oh wait, he's forgotten something important, hasn't he? Like his name, perhaps?]
I will await your response.
[Oh nope, he's leaving it at that.]

Voice;
[There are the sounds of eating... something coming through the microphone. He swallows.]
Where did our generous captors drop you off?
Video; because he doesn't...know how to swap it.
He narrows his eyes in scrutiny. And not just because of the chewing coming through.]
Heropa.
[But a forgemaster in Nonah. He will need to find his way to this city, and to this man it seems.]
RIP estibien
[Except for when you disappear sometimes. It's fine. That's fine.]
Handsome fellow that you are, be careful not to get mobbed by adoring fans on the other side. Nonah is a bigger city.
hey. fuck u
Ugh.]
I will have little issue avoiding their like. [He's always been skilled at being elusive, after all.] All the same, you have my thanks...
[He lets that hang in the air with a tilt of his head, so that the man might give him his name. You know, despite the fact he hasn't given his, but whatever.]
no subject
[Except when he isn't. Whatever. He was having fun.]
no subject
[If so, why the hell did you suggest someone else? Well, he suppose he cannot blame him for avoiding work he may otherwise have no interest in. And if this is not a specialty of his, nor a pursued interest...]
I am not looking for a hobbyist.
video
[ Her smile greets him as she takes a break from her very newly-acquired part-time job at a petting zoo. She is wearing flannel, and her ears have a couple more piercings than when they'd last met. ]
[ Her expression turns apologetic. ]
Sorry to see they've dragged you along.
video
Regardless, she's met with as much of a surprised expression Estinien is capable of, his eyebrows raising to obscurity behind his messy bangs.]
...I had not expected to see you, Warrior of Light.
[Didn't he just talk with her before he arrived here? Was she taken at the same time? But she looks, uh, settled and arguably comfortable, like she's long since arrived. Hm!!]
From the manner in which you speak, I would wager you have been here for some time? I know not how that could be possible...
video
Aye, the Porter doesn't care when it grabs you from. I've been present just over two moons. I presume that you've seen me more recently than that?
video
Aye...we had parted ways after our meeting at the Rising Stones.
[He curiously tilts his head.]
That you would be here for two moons...'tis passing strange.
[Estinien's not a stupid man, but this is well beyond his ken.]
video
That meeting was two moons ago for me. Urianger is present as well, and we found a similar effect.
[ She tries to find the words to explain, brows furrowing in effort. ]
The time isn't a forward march, but a... a vaguer thing than that. This is not my first encounter with this nonsense, but I'm no closer to explaining it, either.
That I'm not missed is all the news I need!
video
[It's an non-committal sound as he thinks this over. It's a bit much, but there's no point in fighting what reality is proving itself to be. Which is frustrating and complex, but hey. That's just life BABEY.]
I suppose then we need not worry about our absence, if we are not truly gone.
[Which makes no sense to him, but he's not about to contemplate such. He'll leave that to those more skilled in such matters.]
How has your prolonged stay treated you? Have you found such a queer world difficult?
[Like how he is...he really ain't feeling the vibe here, that's for certain. He has to actively not think about the robots in his body...]
video
[ She waves her hand around, letting her hand rotate on her wrist to illustrate, presumably, aether. Off-camera, a goat bleats. ]
And if anyone possesses knowledge this star's deeper conspiracies, they've yet to bring me into their confidences on the matter. [ At this point in her career, it's weird. ] I am treated as spectacle, not a warrior.
[ Though she doesn't prefer being on Earth, she has made her peace with it. She is confused about the reasoning behind unleashing people like her and Estinien on the world as civilians. Or, well, people with any kind of skills and knowledge. ]
There's the odd rampaging machina or monster who pops up, but daily life is... peaceful. This is the second fiercest challenge of my typical day.
[ Yenh whirls the camera around to show a goat. Not a particularly nasty-looking goat, or large goat, or magical flaming goat. Just a dappled white-and-brown goat wearing an animal collar. It tries to headbutt the phone. Yenh dodges back. ]
You'll need to be faster than that, Clive.
video
At the mention of the rampaging machina Estinien slightly scowlsāmonsters are fine enough, but he's dealt with enough machina back in Garlemald. It makes sense, this world overly relies on its machines, from what he can tell, doesn't mean he has to like it. But such thoughts are disrupted when the camera swings around to the goat. His expression shifts to that of surprise, but seeing the animal try to headbutt the phone makes him smileāsmall though it is.
Maybe a slight ping of nostalgia is affecting him. When he speaks, there's light amusement to his tone.]
I did not take you for a farm hand, Yenh. [With a light, amused huff, he shakes his head.] Anyroad, this star is strange indeed, even in its peace. Though, I suppose I cannot complain overmuch.
[After all, he was trying to chill back in Kugane when he got chased down by Tataru and Krile, forced onto that adventure. Maybe if he had Orn Khai here with him, he'd feel less shaken up with everything. What's a man to do without his dragon buddy?]
video
Nor can I. Though I remain vigilant, I confess that it has felt not unlike the vacation I am always being told to take.
[ Her smile returns, and she dodges Clive again. ]
I also teach unarmed self-defense classes— that's the one they assigned me. But I rather missed getting my hands dirty with beasts. [ And being randomly assaulted by them. ]
video
If any deserve rest, I would wager you would be at the top of the list. A blessing, though one fairly odd, perhaps.
...That is far better than mine own assignment. I will not entertain such folly.
video
[ She tries to think of what that might be, and gets distracted by simple curiosity. ]
Say, what do they want you to do?
Audio
Video; how does one change these settings, he knows not
Aye, if I cannot find one personally familiar with such methods, it would do well to have your observing eye upon such proceedings.
[After all...this armor is not merely armor. It holds such great sentimental value. If anything were to go wrong, and it would be damaged beyond its intended use...]
Perma-audio: it's fine, he'll figure it out eventually
If thou require other clothing I shalt gladly recommend a shop or two, though our passing was brief we art of a height last I recall and tis not a common one in this land.
If thou hath other questions I would gladly answer them, though some art better answered in person. At thine convenience of course.
Perma-video; bold of you to assume he'll ever use this thing again
[Which means he absolutely intends to just...rely on his armor, and his hobo traveling outfit. Yep. Who needs anything else? Not this guy!
And while he certainly prefers talking in person over this contraption, that requires him to, well, talk to someone in person. Honestly, he'd prefer to not have to do any talking if he didn't have to, but...]
...I do not suppose you are in Heropa.
no subject
[behold: a kind-faced girl with a brightness in her eyes that can only come from armor or sword talk.]
I bet you'll want to seek out Darin Altway for that kind of talk -- he's the most brilliant smith on this world. I can attest to that myself, considering the marvels he's crafted for me.
no subject
Darin Altway? Perchance is that the forgemaster in Nonah the other man spoke of?

[This ain't just random armor, after all!]

He may be proud, but he is no fool. The forge is his passion, his calling. He treats every creation with the reverence it deserves.
no subject
[That seems like the end of it, after all, he's...not great for conversation. However, after a momentary pause, he adds:]
You are not quite like the others, you have a warrior's passion behind your eyes.
[Something forged from, well...experience on the battlefield. Not something any arrogant fool has merely for the sake of wanting glory.]
no subject
...I've seen battle many times before, yes. Even here. [...] But we've all worked very hard to ensure no one else will have to endure what we had to. My sword still fights to protect people, but I'll hope it never has to go back to war.
no subject
A noble burden. [One he understands too well.] Too oft have I found warrior whelps eager to pick up the blade in selfsame and erroneous desire for conflict. 'Tis heartening to hear otherwise.
[There's the slightest ghost of a smile.]
Mayhap we might yet test our steel against one another.
[Look, he's not one for normal conversations, but he does enjoy sparring. That's a style of conversation he greatly enjoys. And this is about as close to an olive branch that he'll extend to someone.]
no subject
spar?
SPAR???????????]
I am always eager to test my skills against other warriors. Please consider the offer already accepted!
no subject
Very well. Once mine armor has been tended to, then I shall test my lance against you, Lady...?
[He lets that hang there for a moment, hoping she'll give him her name.]
no subject
no subject
...Estinien.
[Gods, he hates this place.]
no subject
When you do find your way to Darin's forge, you could mention I recommended you; he might strike a better deal for you that way. [that's compensation for the butchering of the name, right?]
no subject
Aye, you have my thanks. 'Tis not oft such kindness is afforded betwixt strangers, glad am I for it.
[Eorzea can be pretty fucking rough, and that goes double for anywhere outside of it back home.]
A close friend of yours, I wager?
[Why else would someone give a better deal at the mere mention of a name?]

Video
Video
[He supposes he could have been more clear.]
Already do I have such armor, but even armor with powerful enchantments must needs repairingāI seek an armorer for their ability to do the very same. I seek not new armor.
Video
An armor made with dragon fire and blessed by dragons - how different is it from the usual armors?
Video
[There's likely more to it than that, a far more in depth explanation, but he's a warrior, not a craftsman. Besides, those are the parts that matter to him.]
video
video
...I am nary the careless sort, but your warning has been heeded.
video
You some kind of knightie? It seems like the Porter's grabbing up a lot of people who come from what people here would call old timies.
video
Hope you find somebody who can help you out. Can't be easy to be without armor if you're used to it.
[ His armor is in the background of the video feed, freshly repaired, oiled and strapped around an unseen mannequin. Who knows where he got that mannequin from. ]
video
You misunderstand, I have mine armor, but 'twould be a fool's endeavor to know not of those whom can endeavor to maintain it under the natural weathering it faces.
[A beat, as he pulls the camera back to show said armor.]
Indeed, a warrior such as I would feel near naked without mine armor, 'tis a blessing that was not the case.
no subject
[ He can't help it - he's leaning closer to the camera to take a better look. ]
I can see why that might need regular maintenance. That's... incredible? I've never seen armor like it. What's it made out of? Other than forged in dragon flames, you said? Right?
