It's kind of incredible to think about the fact that I've been here for five years — I've gone back to my home universe a few times but I always came back here after a short time, and with my memories intact. Obviously.

[ A short pause. ]

I don't really mean “incredible” in only a good or only a bad way, either; a bit of both, sure, which I could say a lot about on both ends of that spectrum. I guess ... my point now is more that I just want to record this, just to have something in the network files that says I was here for this long. With so many imPorts getting ported out over the last few months, it feels lonelier here. or maybe that's just because all my close friends and what I'd had of a family have gone.

[ She makes an expression between annoyed and sad, briefly. ]

How many of you still here have been here that long or longer? If you haven't, would you prefer to be here or home? I don't know, talk to me about stuff; I'm curious and nostalgic.

I haven't even been here a year yet...I didn't know anyone could be here for five years. I've lost family members the last couple of months so I'd definitely rather be back home with them.

[But they had also been here longer then him so perhaps it just isn't his time to go home yet.]

Oh yeah. This world likes having me around, I guess. [ She teases slightly, with a faint smile. ] I'm sorry though, losing family always makes it rougher - hopefully you won't be without them for that long. [ Because yeah five years is a lot. ] When is your year anniversary here?

I arrived in June. Some of the people from my world that were here...won't be alive back home.

[Which makes losing them from this place that much harder...]

Are there very many here that have been stuck for as long as you have?

[ She gives a sympathetic look. ]

That's one good thing about this place, people getting those chances. [ People getting a chance to live, that is. ]

But I think maybe a couple or so left, definitely not many. There were people who were here longer than I was, up until recently.

I never realized it could be that long. I'm not sure I can handle being away from home that long.

[the only thing that made it bearable was having people he cared about here. He doesn't think he could handle it alone.]

How many from your home are left here?

I'd say you get used to it, but that wouldn't be entirely honest. From my world exactly, one or two left. Some others from a world very similar to mine, maybe four or so of them?

You had similar worlds too? I've met a few people from a different version of my own.

How did you know they were from a different world?

I have, yeah. I was told about events that happened there; some differently than how they happened in my own world, some more similar. About the version of myself that was in that world, things about versions of people I knew in my own world.

If I hadn't lived this it would have all seemed like some crazy fantasy story. I wonder how many different version of our worlds exist.

An understatement, most likely; I'll second that. I probably wouldn't count out the answer being somewhere around "infinite possibilities", which is ... probably unsettling-slash-concerning if thought too long about.

I think I'm going to pretend there aren't a hundred different versions of myself out there somewhere...

Which honestly makes you the smartest version out of those hundred, so that's a plus?

[He laughs. That is one way to look at it.]

I guess that does make it better in a way.

[ She smiles. ] Every weird multiversal story has a silver lining, even if you have to look really hard for it because it's microscopic and/or sneaky. Because it's usually one of those.

It was two for me, back in January.

[ he sounds a little tired and hollow. ]

There are things here that I can't have back home... I really never want to go back.

Time flies, right? But yeah, I relate to that too in the sense I wouldn't trade my time here for anything, but it really throws and lands some hard punches sometimes.
