( Today, Franziska is filming from an odd location for a wannabe-prosecutor. She is, in fact, perched about four feet up a tree in a Heropa park, precariously positioned on a fortunately positioned branch. Her ever-present riding crop is by her side, its handle enclosed in one tight fist. )

All right, so I've been here for almost two months already, and there's something that I've been wondering. If one comes from a world where superpowers are non-existent, what is the best way to activate one's new powers here? I've heard everything from 'close your eyes and wish it' to having an accident, to 'it comes with time'. Well, I've been waiting and I've been trying very hard.

( She frowns, kicking her legs into the air. ) Yet, I still cannot fly. If anyone has experience with activating such powers, or any knowledge of flying, I would welcome your advice.

( This would be the perfect place for something along the lines of 'thanks in advance', but Franziska doesn't offer it. Instead, her scowl merely deepens before she turns the feed off. )

You could try jumping from higher. If your life is actively in danger, perhaps your powers will activate out of self-preservation.

I considered that option. I jumped from that tower during the charity fundraiser last month, but I didn't really feel anything. ( A beat. ) Perhaps the parachute prevented any need for subconscious self-preservation.

Trying it without the parachute would be foolish. What if my powers didn't activate?

It is. Apparently I can achieve a maximum height of one kilometer and do not require any source of external propulsion. That's all the information I was given, however.

I know of a few whose powers only activated when they did something special. There's one person here who can only really get control when he does something nice for someone. It could be something like that. It could be something like that.

( Doing... nice things for others? What a peculiar mechanism for the activation of a power. She doesn't look too convinced. )

Do you really think that would work? I should just do a good deed and then I'll launch up off the ground?

( It's not the worst idea she's heard. At least it's a new one. )

Just how nice would I have to be?

Has it occurred to you that possibly your powers have nothing to do with flight?

It was in my file. Are you suggesting I was lied to? ( To be fair, at this point in time, it's something she'd start to take into consideration. )

Have you considered that perhaps you are trying too hard? [ Samara is blue and definitely not human in appearance. She tilts her head slightly. ] I realize it might seem like a strange thing to consider, but it is possible that could be the cause of your problems.

( After talking to the dinosaur that stole the countdown clock, nothing quite fazes Franziska any more, although she is still quite curious. )

You mean, something like meditating? I've been thinking about it, but I haven't attempted it yet.

I never really...had to think about that. With my power, I mean. Probably because I got something I used back home anyway. Not that it was considered a power back home but still. I guess it would be harder for those who had nothing back home.

I'd still say it's probably best to be safer and have something to help you land safe if you go jumping off any tall buildings or something though. As cool as flight sounds.

I did the whole 'visualize it in my mind and believe' thing but it didn't seem to work.

I wonder if there's one of those gymnastics places around here. Did they have those in your world? Y'know, with the big trampolines and foam pits and things you can climb and swing around on? That might be the safest way to test the "throw yourself from a tall height" theory.

I'm not familiar with such places personally, but such a venue does sound potentially useful. Do you know how I would go about locating one?

Honestly? It depends on the power. Life-or-death situations usually do it, but you don't really want to take a gamble on them working or not work.

Seems like you got a lot of good advice you can use already.

I have indeed. The next step in my plan is to write out a list of all the suggestions and figure out the optimal order to attempt them in.

( A beat, and reluctantly she adds: ) Somebody here was telling me that death isn't as permanent as it was back home. ( It sounds just like another fact she wants confirmation of. )
