[A network, huh? Before doing anything, Conan had spent some time observing it. He couldn't help but find anything as convenient as this suspicious.

But even with all the information he had gathered so far, he was still stuck with far more questions than answers. There was no help for it. He was still suspicious, but using the network would be faster than tracking people down individually. And could possibly have the very useful side effect of establishing his reputation here as nothing more than a curious kid.

He opens up the communicator and deliberately fumbles around with it for a bit, before opening the connection and scowling childishly at the camera.]

The people who brought us here are really mean, aren't they? I didn't ask to go on vacation at all!

[Conan smiles, and proceeds to dig for information.]

Ne! So can anyone tell me more about this place! It looks a little like America, right? But it doesn't look familiar at all. And it seems like there are some strange things going on here. Are there really superheroes? But those are just in stories, right? Is it just people in costumes playing tricks?

[Sometimes Conan still couldn't believe that people bought this kind of act.]

Hmm. Might be wise to try that out of doors, then. And well out of kicking range of other people. Is that all?

The magic crystal ball of Google says- something about picking up psychic impressions of things. That's handy.

I don't believe in ESP. [Conan was probably going to be stubborn about this. ]

And even if something like that could exist, it would be cheating.

Suit yourself- I think it'd be pretty awesome.

A detective doesn't need anything like that. And besides, if something like that was real, then why are crimes still happening here?

If you have it, might as well utilize it, I think.

Because criminals can have superpowers, too. It's not just limited to the good guys.

[Conan was still offended by the very idea of being able to read a crime scene just by touching an item in it. It was like it made a mockery of all the observational skills he had spent ten years developing.]

Why should I trust anything like that? And it isn't like its admissible evidence.

Non-admissable evidence can sometimes put you on a trail to follow.

A decent detective doesn't need that kind of trail.

Oh really? Are you a detective?

I'm an elementary school detective.

That sounds totally legit to me. Like, real detective stuff.

I find a lot of lost pets.

Ah, but sometimes I help Uncle and the police too, and that's much more interesting!

But hey, I help the police department back home, too. You must be a hell of a smart kid.

[It was probably better not to mention just how many of those lost pets had lead to stumbling across murder scenes.]

They say I'm good at noticing things.

You do? What do you do for the police?

I'm a consultant. I got called in once to help a case where someone was basing their murders off my books- I'm a mystery writer back home- and somehow I ended up sticking around to help once I was cleared as a suspect and helped solve the case.

[...That was almost identical to how his father had started working as a consultant to the police. And Conan wasn't entirely sure how to react to such an absurd coincidence.]

Really? What kinds of mystery novels do you write?

Some spy thrillers, some action and adventure... I was inspired by James Bond, so my protagonists tend to be police detectives and the like.

If you were inspired by Bond, why are they police officers?

Well, he's not my only inspiration, to be fair. My fiance's a police detective, so my latest series stars a savvy female detective.

I guess that makes sense.

[He was only surprised that his own parents had never done something similar. Of course considering his Dad had designed the character of Irene Adler in that Holmes game to look exactly like his mother...]

Are your novels any good?

I have quite a huge fanbase, so I'd like to say they're good. Some say mine are a bit... pulp-y, though. Mindless entertainment but nothing great.

[Conan was starting to get a little disturbed at all the similarities. ]

That sounds a lot like one of my distant relative's books!
