I’m not going to start by asking twenty questions, I assume those that've been here longer must be sick of them. [So there’s bound to be a few people here that might recognise his voice, though he doesn't know who and if there actually is anyone from home. Some of the standard questions that come to mind he has the answers to already from looking back. Others, well he doesn't want to unleash a bombardment of questions when he’s first introducing himself to people. After all, that can come later and when they wish they just ignored him.]

So I’ll just ask if there’s anything worth knowing that people feel like sharing. Maybe someone could even tell me where a good place to get some decent coffee is.

[He might sound cheery, but those good enough to pick things up might realise that his tone isn't quiet ringing true. He doesn't want to inconvenience people he doesn't know with his own problems, so best not to make anyone think there’s something wrong.]

Well. You'll find out eventually, I guess. Maybe not for a while though, dependin' on how long y'end up stuck here. Could be a long time.

Wonderful. [The thought of being here for a long time isn't sitting well with him.]

How long have you been here?

Probably been away from home somethin' like three years now. Goes by fast though. An' they say y'go back at the same time that y'left, like nothin' ever happened.

Three years? [He'd been expecting maybe a few months or something, and he can't imagine it going by fast. Not really.]

Not that I have much to go back to if that happened. [But hey, he'd find the answer to his question...]

Yup. Had t'start makin' some kinda life for myself. Couldn't just sit around all this time waitin' t'go home, y'know?

[There's another long pause before he replies again.]

That makes sense.

At least it isn't drastically different, like apocalyptic different.

We had one of those. An apocalypse, I mean. Y'missed it.

Thank goodness for small mercies. Sounds like this place sees as much action as back home.
