[ A smile lights up her face -- friendly, warm, inviting. And her tone is much the same. ]

My name is Raina. As you can probably guess, I'm new to this world. But that doesn't make me any less fascinated by it. To be drawn here by forces beyond our control, given powers beyond some of our comprehension, and to have an opportunity beyond our wildest dreams to be heroes? I can't be the only one who is excited by the prospect, can I? This world is incredible. Beautiful, even.

[ Her lips purse in thought and she lowers her gaze toward her fingernails -- freshly manicured. It was one of the very first things she did since she got here, apart from buying the lovely flower dress she has on. ]

But there are things that the files and the debriefing can't explain; things that only those with experience in this world can share. And that is what I hope you'll do with me. Share.

[ Raina makes eye contact with the camera again, her smile -- still beautiful in nature -- houses something else. Something almost predatory. ]

What is it that makes you special? We were chosen for one reason or another. Perhaps you aren't aware of the reasons or perhaps you aren't comfortable sharing them over the network. I understand. We all have our secrets. But I hope at least some of you will help me understand your worlds and your lives and you, yourself. Now that we're all given a special power -- what was it that you have done with yours or what is it you will do?

Incredible. I knew you were a rare talent before, but this is truly remarkable. How did you manage something on such a large scale?

[ Alas, this particular experiment was more of a fluke; he certainly won't be able to replicate this one. But even so. Prodigy is definitely the right term here.

There's a pause before this reply; he's sorting out how much he wants to tell her. Considering they haven't formally introduced themselves to each other and they're in public? Not much. ]

accident, mostly. i overloaded the tech i was working with and it hit most of the city.

And how did you reverse the process? Unless you haven't...

wore off on its own. i mean id have fixed it anyway, but it would have taken time. probably a couple weeks.

I assume this is because of the nanites wanting to stabilize the bodies of their hosts. It makes sense. But two weeks to fix the damage if it hadn't worked out that way? That is no small feat. I never caught your name?

basically yeah. and it's like a vaccine? i don't think i'll be able to do that twice, anyway. and - i mean it's mostly cause the tech we were using imploded. if it hadn't we'd have fixed it earlier.

[ You slipped and said 'we', Hiro. And Raina notices it, but she chooses not to say anything. ]

So what is the tech you're working on now meant to do? Or is that a top secret project?

[ Oops. No points for guessing who the other half of that "we" is, given the conversation that happened below this one. ]

uh - secret, kind of. i wanted to see if affecting nanites was a thing it could do? and it can, so now i have to decide what to do with that.

[ Also, see if he's even capable of getting it to fire again; he's not sure he can, given the difficulty he had the first time around. ]

[ Oh this is so interesting -- especially considering most of what she intends to do with her research relies on a better understanding of the nanites. But she knows it's far too soon to convince Hiro to help her. This has to be a slow-building, trusting relationship. ]

You are brilliant in ways I haven't encountered in quite some time. I'm positive you'll figure out what to do with your technology.

Actually, I have a bit of a request for you. My lab at work seems to have some of the most archaic equipment. Perhaps you could come and take a look at it at some point? See if there's anything you can improve to help with the overall functionality? Our business runs largely on donations and government funding, and unfortunately I'm not so sure imPort research is a top priority.

[ She's already hit on two surefire ways of attracting his attention: compliment his intelligence and then ask him from help. Hamadas have issues with feeling the need to help. ]

yeah. uh. thanks. i will. i figure i'm smart enough for it.

[ But really, it's the thought of helping that catches his attention. Especially Raina's insinuation that they're going to leave it up to the authorities. Pffft. ]

ugh no don't rely on THAT. i can do it ten times better in half the time i promise. just lemme see how you're doing it. and where's the lab?

Today? I'm afraid I'm meeting with someone shortly and I have no idea how long it will take. But tomorrow or any day after that would work out great for me. :)
