002 - Voice
[Harry has been mulling over the government announcement since yesterday, and becomes more and more certain things never actually do settle down around here. He's glad he had the foresight to register, though beyond the mark on his wrist, it means nothing to him.
What's more important is casting out feelers on the Network on another rare occasion, to gauge reactions, and who to keep his eye on.]
I've found that some things manage to stay consistent between at least my own world and this one. The sky is blue, water is wet, and America spins morally divisive federal action in the most saccharine way possible.
[A small testy sigh, that doesn't betray the heavier one he breathed out after reading the announcement.]
But perhaps political discussion is a bit gauche when I mean to talk business. Lillian, Miss Sabriel, your suits are ready to be picked up or delivered at your earliest convenience.
[And the end of the post is its disguise; finished examples of his tailoring work.]

Still, I think it's less deliberate malice, and more that they don't really understand imPorts.

Unfortunately, another universal constant is that people fear what they don't understand.
[As refreshing as that optimism is, Sabriel, Harry doesn't quite share it.]

How's business anyway?

[He's actually started to develop a tan. The last time he got one of those was a long mission in Thailand.]
I've picked up a few orders from the locals, actually. They seem to think it a novelty to have an imPort modify their clothes. [It's not as if the materials are different, and labor is hardly a souvenir, but best not to complain.]

Don't feed me too much praise, Lilian. I'm still sewing out of my living room, you know.

Has the US government done something similar in your world?
Permavoice
In the past, yes, though sugar coating is something they've perfected up to the present. Usually in regards to wars.

I don't see the benefits in stirring up conflict within our ah, community. If they're hoping Registered will out Vigilantes, I'm not sure they'll get it.

I enjoy your humor. Are you unregistered? ( the question is innocent enough; she doesn't expect him to answer, given the danger, even if he was. )
I'm impressed by the work you've done so far. I'm more in a position financially to engage your services, if you'd still like to work together.
[permavoice]
[He evades as gracefully as possible. He's mentioned registration in even the recent past, and it's not as if people would be threatened by a tailor, but best to cover his bases when he feels it's applicable.]
I'd love to, Miss Adler. Times seem to call for more imPort cooperation than ever.

It seems you've done well for yourself so far. I'd like to contribute to your success, if I may. In the interest of cooperation, of course.

[If the rails are set, the punchline will inevitably be violent.]
So more than just a clothing order? I'm listening.

Bad things tend to happen here. Often. Calamities, political disasters - I've seen both in the time I've been here. It seems like things will only get worse now that we're being turned upon one another. ( at least, that's what she views the new announcement as doing. it was an old trick - you want to divide groups that have the most in common. )
I could use a friend, Mister Hart. ( and by friend, she means 'contact'. )
