[ Okay, he's bored. Where are the tumbling heroics? Where's the challenge? Lucifer is here - back - whatever, taking time out from recording his show to hang out on the network with you fascinating examples of God's greatest mistakes. He sets up his camera, which shows off the back of a chair that reads 'Lucifer' in broad black writing. The background is a handsome looking church, with stained glass windows, long red carpets, and hanging red drapes that tumble down the broad pillars. Huge bouquets of summer flowers decorate the altars and tumble out of the planters beside the pews, and light pours in through the round feature window. For once, Lucifer - when he takes his seat - is groomed, dressed in a neat black on black suit, and finished with silver fish shaped cufflinks and everything. He looked the part of the villain, the businessman; the schemer. A charismatic cult leader. Or well...like a guy in a sharp suit. He counted off on his fingers: ]

Pestilence. War. Famine. [ And he touched his fourth finger, then looked puzzled at the camera. ] Well, would you look at that. Four horsemen, not three. No prizes to anyone who guesses the last one.

[ He reaches into his breast pocket, removing a simple silver ring very carefully, propped it on his thumbnail and then flicked it. Flicked Death's ring clean into the air, then snatched his hand up and caught it. ] One left.

[ He leaned very slightly forward, speaking as though he were sharing a secret. ] Don't worry your head about it, my darling. I wouldn't dream of giving this thing to just anyone, but its multiversal owner really will have to come fetch it back before I'm tempted. To do what? Who knows? I'm mercurial like that. Sammmmy, come on out to play. It's been forever.

[ Lucifer's attention was broken by his accepting a clipboard and signing off on something on it. ] Chicken soup again? [ A nod from the assistant. ] Good. It's wonderful for the soul.

[ And then he's left to continue with his video, and he rolls his eyes pointedly. ] The fault really lies with you, kiddos. All that anger and repression, it'll mess you right up. But for the sake of argument, I think it's fair to say 'I predict a riot'. Accurate? Why don't we talk it out, hm?

[ It's amazing what people will do for an actual angel, and considering he still more or less preaches God's forgiveness...well, it's been working for him. He cocks his head very slightly. ]

Our past would indicate against you as a witness. We were housemates, and I was nothing but kind, reasonable, accommodating. I even left when I was asked. [ Sweeping a dry tear away from his eye. ] You must have something against me to keep up with this kind of persecution.

It strikes me that letting an artifact from my realm go freely into the mortal plane would be interfering, wouldn't it?

Don't misunderstand me, Morningstar. I like humans well enough. But all I want is the ring. And since I can't bring it back to the Sunless Lands myself, giving it to people who won't ever use it is the next best thing.

[ Raina tried so hard to keep her reaction from her face. But there was something about the tightness of her jaw and squaring of her shoulders that indicated tension. Not only that. Her heart sank to the pit of her stomach to think of Frederick, dear Frederick, standing up to Lucifer on her behalf when he should be staying away.

And her only saving grace was that Lucifer had seen into her soul before she became so entwined with Chilton. He believed her to be a heartless manipulator, pulling at Chilton's strings when truth be told, Chilton had equal pull over her. So she pushed the subject to the side, didn't dwell on it, and moved on to the topic of Sam. ]

He seems to suffer from low self-esteem. Doesn't seem to believe he's worth his brother's protection or time. I got the impression he thinks his brother might be better off without him. Trouble in paradise?

You know that I don't. That's why you're so smug about this.

It's less fun when it isn't accompanied by the dulcet melody of Freebird, is it?

[ A pause, as someone steps in and fluffs Lucifer's hair slightly. Hair and make up, yep. ]

I suppose you're entitled to be mad at me. Somewhat. But I didn't give you bad dreams-- [ He tapped his temple, and the man doing his make-up made an agitated noise and slapped at his hand. ] Those came from inside you.

How do you sleep, Will? Do you dream much?

I didn't feel that it was right for creatures of divinity to bow to multitudinous, duplicitous, paradise destroying apes.
I mean, really. If someone - even someone you respected and loved - told you to bow down and worship a cockroach, would you do it?

And yet a human brought it here. A human lost it to me. That would be fate wouldn't it?

[ Considering she'd accepted the ring willingly, cheerfully, and Chilton believed that it had been forced on her--well. It filled him with joy to be responsible for sowing those schisms between them. A man and woman, their love fractured and tested by the woman's deceit...it was sort of like his party trick, after all.

He doesn't show any sign of noticing her reactions, lets the topic drift to Sam. Speaking of schisms... ]

They both do. It's in their blood. Their pride, their past, their fears and neuroses--tear them apart more often than they adhere them together. If they weren't related, I doubt they'd work together at all.

[ No answer, just a slightly quirked eyebrow. An answer might hold in court. ]

[He's not sorry at all, he just wondered if he could type that with a straight face (or at all). The other part isn't actually a lie...when one considers fishing a way of life and something that can be applied to every aspect of it instead of simply the rod, the reel, the fish, the water, it's apt. He dreams about fishing for fish as much as he dreams about issues that arise with fishing for serial killers. Fishing for men is still fishing.]

Does it matter how it got here? It slipped through the cracks in reality. Sometimes that happens. The how or why isn't too important to me.
