Good evening, everyone. I hope you're doing well.

If we haven't met before, I'm David Xanatos, founder and CEO of Xanatos Enterprises. I have a couple of things to discuss tonight, so please bear with me.

Firstly, I'm happy to announce that I've taken over the role of Director at Xavier's School for Imports outside of Heropa, filling a more financial-oriented role with the always-capable Robert Callaghan as Headmaster. Import youth of all ages who would like to learn more about controlling their powers or who simply want a student body filled with people like them are welcome to enroll at any time, and we're always hiring for teachers and staff positions.

Secondly, I'm looking for science-minded individuals to collaborate with myself and Tony Stark in the design and construction of a state-of-the-art, multi-billion-dollar research facility near De Chima. The sole stipulation is that any discoveries made there be made available for others to build on, for the advancement of all.

I'll be happy to take any of your questions in the meantime.

Interesting. What type of magic?

I'm a wizard, myself, but I'd imagine any classes would have to be a bit broader- something like theory- since I've yet to see any two magic systems here that are alike.

Magic differing from realm to realm is somewhat surprising, but not entirely unexpected. What does "wizard" mean to you?

I don't have a pointy hat and a robe, if you're wondering.

Wizards in my world use a runic alphabet of sorts to cast spells. Our magic is all written in some way.

Interesting.

I don't suppose I could request an in-person demonstration...?

If you really wanted, I don't see why not. Is there a time and place that works for you?

[ video ]

I'll be working down at the school all this week.

[ video ]

Sure. I can be down sometime in the next couple of days, if that works.

[ And true to his word, sometime in the next couple of days, Xanatos will get a text with a time that Charlie plans on coming by. If it works out, Charlie will show up at the school as promised. ]

[As promised, Xanatos tells him the right time to drop by, and clears his schedule; he can be found in the office of the school working at a desk.]

[ Charlie raps on the doorframe with a knuckle to announce his presence. Hard to tell over the video, but he's a bit on the short side ]

Knock knock.

[Xanatos looks up and favors him with a winning smile.] Mr. Maxwell, I presume?

[animated]

The one and only. [ he steps into the office, taking a quick look around ] Though Charlie is just fine.

Nice to finally meet you in person, Mr. Xanatos.

[andgoliath]

And you as well. [He extends a hand once Charlie's in range.] Though if I'm to call you Charlie, I'm afraid I'll have to insist on being David.

[animated]

[ He takes that offered hand- and given the short-sleeved shirt he's wearing, if Xanatos is observant, he will probably notice the tattoo on the inside of Charlie's right forearm. Not his imPort tattoo, though that's certainly there as well, but a series of runic markings in blue ink- it's somewhat stylized, but at the base of it is what he will come to know as the language of Charlie's magic. ]

David it is, then.

Do you want the history lesson first or shall we just get on the with demonstration?

[andgoliath]

[Interesting. He'll save his questions for later.] I'm not a fan of dilly-dallying. By all means, proceed.

[animated]

Sure.

[ Charlie raises a hand, index and middle fingers extended, and begins writing in the air. Ice blue light flows from his fingertips, forming a runic character. Once it's completed, the mark vanishes and the papers on Xanatos' desk rearrange themselves in a neat stack. Another marking pulls a random book off of a shelf, another makes it fly a couple of laps around the room, flapping its pages like a bird. It then hovers in front of the wizard a moment, before dropping into his waiting hand. ]

Not flashy, I know, but that's not my Specialization.

[andgoliath]

[Well now. That is interesting. Xanatos remains completely unperturbed by all of this, by the way, simply leaning back in his chair and steepling his fingers together in front of his mouth.] Impressive.

How is it controlled? You wrote one character, but it took a single book, made it act like a bird, and brought it to you. Was all of that contained in the rune?

[animated]

It is, but it probably looks simpler because I'm a fast caster. Every school of wizardry has a set of base runes, and the spells kind of build off of them. Simple things can be done in seconds, more complex enchantments can take days or months to get right.

[andgoliath]

I see.

And anyone can learn this? I could trace that rune of yours and have the exact same outcome?

[animated]

[ He gives a shake of his head ] The magic comes from me. The marks just give it form.

[andgoliath]

Ah. [A pause.] Then, if you don't mind my asking: What would you teach here? If your magic can't be taught.

[animated]

Whatever I could. Theory, history, the basics. I doubt anyone's powers would be like my own, but sometimes having someone just to talk shop with can go a long way for someone trying to figure out the bounds of their abilities.

Barring that, I still wouldn't mind tackling a more mundane subject.

[andgoliath]

I see. Well, it's not out of the question. I'm not too sure how many aspiring wizards we have in the student body, though.

What 'mundane' subjects would you be interested in?
