[If there's one thing you never want to do, it's recruit Kaneda for anything that he didn't want to be a part of originally. Because getting teenagers to do ANYTHING you want them to never goes over well. In hindsight, the city should've known that. But being recruited for some military position? Doing a job (and an awful one at that, in Kaneda's opinion)? You might as well sign the release form now and let him get back on with his life.

But they didn't. Which...complicates things.

He doesn't leave a moment to cool off, flicking on the communication device to reveal a...very upset, very angry Kaneda.

Understandably. He already lost most of his life and friends. Two more just takes the proverbial cake. So the government might have to work a little bit to get Kaneda to cooperate, just a little.]

HEY! Anyone going to tell me what's going on without using crazy talk? Where my friends are? I don't exactly trust authority.

[They kind of fucked up his friend mega.]

[Ah, there's the teenage boy problems we all know and love. After all, why read the information when you can yell about it?]

I know, right? It's a shame.

[He considers, thinking about the question for a moment.]

Maybe. I've never seen an imPort go nuts, unless they were already. That's what you meant, right, just amongst this population?

Yeah. We had...something like powers back home. Kind of. Friend of mine had 'em and it was too much for him.

[Basically, he doesn't want to try and destroy the city.]

I got it. I've... I think in some cases, it is possible. But most of the other imPorts I've met have been pretty good people. Most of us will help another through it, if they need it, you know? Because we've been there, either at home or here. Being the only one with powers, I could see how that... might affect you.

[rassera]

Certainly gives you an ego...

[Personal experience on that one, although not necessarily HIM.]

I never really had anything like that--people to count on other than my friends. We were all we had and...that's just how thing were.

[resipiscent]

Sometimes it does, yeah.

I get it. I just think, and I think a lot of imPorts share the sentiment, that we're kind of all in the same boat, you know? We're all castaways, so... we should stick together.

[rassera]

[Just the feeling of sticking together gave Kaneda some comfort. He'd found stability in his life with found family and friends, and...somehow that was the easiest to slip back into.]

Sounds good to me.

Being lost together sounds pretty okay.

Right? That's what I think, too. It's better to be lost together than alone.

You know, you're pretty smart for someone who looks about my age. How long've you been stuck here?

[resipiscent]

I've been here... since January. So a little more than six months.

[rassera]

Six months...!

It can be that long???

[resipiscent]

I've heard rumors of people who are here for years. So six months isn't that bad.

[rassera]

Damn...

[Yep, you're gonna be here awhile, Kaneda.]

And here I thought it'd be a three month check-in. At most.

Eh...guess you just gotta roll with it.

Not like I have much to go back home to anyway. You know, besides friends.

That's a lot to go back to all on its own, to be fair. And sometimes they appear here, too. If you didn't like home, sometimes this can be a fresh start.

[rassera]

A fresh start's not so bad. Especially if there's a chance they can come at some point.

[There, the idea of staying was really starting to warm up to him now.]

Not like I got a choice either way, right? Might as well make the most of things.

[And he's got his bike so...there goes the last of the unacceptable errors.]

Yeah, I think there is. There's four people from my world here now, so likely some from yours will show up, too.

That'd be nice. I mean...we only just met up again.

[And found out they're alive.]

Good to hear things worked out for you, though. Gives us all a little hope.

Thanks. But honestly, I think that even if someone from my world hadn't shown up, I'd have been okay. We imPorts seem to be pretty good at adapting. And at making friends amongst ourselves.
