I thought you guys were alright having a Storm Rider for President but I shouldn't surprised it just makes this whole country COMPLETELY INSANE.

It's really not surprising given the WEIRD culture they have, don't you think?!

It's kind of founded on unchecked growth and thoughtless progress! It's a bizarre contradiction of colonial paternalism and short sighted consequence shuffling!

It's government theoretically has more accountability but in practice it's population is too uneducated and apathetic to really have any affect on federal outcomes!

It's fascinating to watch as a sociological phenomenon though!

Storm Riders are AT users--AT is Air Trek which... yeah I guess nobody's heard of here??? They're motorized inline skates. You could say Storm Riders are high-level users; a lot of us AT for combat or at least Parts War.

Colonial paternalism is a phrase I kind of threw together to represent the behavior the United States typically exhibits in foreign affairs! They have a habit of trying to control foreign nations under the justification that they are guarding them from other foreign intervention; but while there is a case to be made for whether a small nation would suffer more under the influence of the United States versus another nation like Russia or China, the United States still exploits the natural resources of a country through trade imbalances, over industrialization, and pollution! And it has a habit of overthrowing governments that make attempts to undermine US interests!

Also based on your explanation, I think that the president in this world is probably not a Storm Rider!

AT are basically skates with a motor built in to the wheels. It's more complicated than that--there's the hydraulics and the power injection system, but that's the easiest way to explain... and a Storm Rider is like an advanced user.

[Was this guy some kind of genius or just underestimating the tech that went into a pair of ATs? As into maintaining his own ATs as Kazu was, he didn't think he could build a pair of scratch.

On the one hand, maybe seeing a pair knocked up from nothing would be pretty cool... and maybe these guys knew where he could get parts. His AT got enough use that Kazu was constantly having to replace something. Without access to parts, they'd become non-functional within a matter of weeks.

On the other hand. Handing his AT over to some guy he met on the internet sounded like a horrible idea. Never mind the Flame Regalia, which he'd let another human being touch over his dead, crispy body: a resolve that had been tested more than once.

Well, he could take the regalia off ahead of time... And maybe he could find out some more about this guy. Make sure he wasn't likely to rip him off]
