...No, wait, hold on a second. This is so awkward. Hello, um, imPorts. My name is Olive. Olive Silverlock. ...And I feel like I'm introducing myself as the new kid in front of my whole class, so this is about as much fun for me as it is for you.

[She pauses, what sounds like a breath being taken slightly audible from the recording.]

So! Yeah. New kid in town. In the world. You know I feel like I heard stories about this kind of thing happening, but it only really happened to the "superheroes" from where I live. Honestly it's so weird and I feel a little bit...guilty, I guess.

Not that this place doesn't seem great, but I'm not...interested in this hero stuff. Seems like such a big deal around here and it just weirds me out. [She pauses again, contemplating for a moment what more to say. Then she remembers something.] My friend though - Maps - would be in love with this place. If she was here I mean. If she was then she'd probably be screaming in my ear right now about getting to be a real life superhero, and going on team missions and stuff like that. I bet she'd get powers that would help her...I dunno, raid dungeons or solve puzzles? She plays a lot of roleplaying games like that sort.

[Are dungeons even a thing here? She has no clue. The town she got placed in seems like a rough area in particular, but no more rough than what she's used to seeing in Gotham City.]

...Well, okay, this is a disaster so I'm going to stop talking now and try to be a normal person.

[Hah. Normal. She wishes to be more normal.]

Oh, uh sure. I guess that would be fun. [And it'd be a nice, small reminder of home, with all the recent craziness that has swallowed up her life.] Guess this place is pretty normal then, superhero stuff aside.

Kiiiind of? I mean, day to day it's usually pretty average, if you can ignore the fact that we're stuck in an alternate universe in the middle of the Cold War even though it's 2015. I mean, we still have to do homework.

[pyrolock]

I'd like to ignore that a lot actually. [But, she can't. She wishes he could delude herself, but she's not the type of person who can do that.] I think I'm good with doing homework instead of stopping bank robbers personally. Or fighting aliens.

You're in luck! I think all the aliens have been friendly so far.

[pyrolock]

Oh...so there are aliens here. [She was just kinda joking there.] As long as they aren't the kind of aliens from all the movies.

I don't think anyone's been abducted yet.

That's a relief. I don't want to go to space. [Maps would but Maps isn't here, a fact is she constantly reminding herself of -- ugh.] Sorry, I know I'm kind of a downer on all this cool stuff everyone else must love.

Hey, it's okay! I think it's totally normal to be weirded out by all this. I mean, I was. It's the kind of thing that's supposed to happen to other people, right?

Kind of thing that's supposed to happen for people who look for it. Like actual superheroes - there are a lot of them in my world.

[performance]

You have superheroes back home, too? [ He grins, looking excited by this news. ] No way. So many people end up here and say that's just comic book stuff! Wait, wait, what're some of yours — maybe I've heard of them?

[pyrolock]

Oh, um. [She tries hard not to grimace and for the most part she succeeds. Kind of wishing she didn't opt for video feed on this one.] Have you heard of, uh, Superman? He's a pretty big deal back where I'm from. He wears blue and red, flies around, beats aliens.

[No kid her age could forget when they were nine-ten years old and suddenly there was an alien invasion.]

Oh, man, everyone knows Superman! He's like the superhero! Back home, I mean. So maybe we're from the same place. Or neighbor universes, at least?

[pyrolock]

Oh, that's nice. [She smiles a little, a little relieved to hear of the possibility. It's not exactly what she would want (i.e. her friends) but he at least doesn't seem all too bad.] Where do you live then? I come from Gotham City.

[Though she hasn't really lived in the city for a long time now.]

No way! You're kidding— I'm from Gotham too! Small universe, huh?

[pyrolock]

Really? That's so weird, but in a good way! [She's happy to hear that, even if she may not sound like it, but it just reminds her how far she is from her friends. It still stings.] Do you attend Gotham Academy by any chance? I don't think I've ever seen you around, but guess that might be the whole "different universes" thing coming in.

[While she's not acquainted with everyone, the school isn't so big that she hasn't at least seen most of the students in the halls and on campus.]

I do! They have one of my mathlete trophies up in the case. [ This nerd. ]

What grade are you in? I'm a freshman— or, uh, I was back home. [ He laughs a little, sheepish. ] Been a while.

[pyrolock]

Sophomore. [So she's older than him, but...well if it's been a while...she rather not ask right now.] Well, I don't know you from school but there's so many students - I wouldn't really know for certain. Sorry.

[She feels a little bad. A student from her school and she isn't even sure if he comes from her world or not. But it's the strongest connection to back home she has now.]

[performance]

It's okay! I mean— for all I know, I don't even exist in your universe. Or maybe I'm like thirty. Real concern, by the way, and hearing it never gets un-weird.

Oh, wow. Okay you win the...I don't know what kind of award, but you win it. [Yikes...] Do you know anything about 30-year old you, or do you want to avoid touching that whole subject?
