Um...hi.

...No, wait, hold on a second. This is so awkward. Hello, um, imPorts. My name is Olive. Olive Silverlock. ...And I feel like I'm introducing myself as the new kid in front of my whole class, so this is about as much fun for me as it is for you.

[She pauses, what sounds like a breath being taken slightly audible from the recording.]

So! Yeah. New kid in town. In the world. You know I feel like I heard stories about this kind of thing happening, but it only really happened to the "superheroes" from where I live. Honestly it's so weird and I feel a little bit...guilty, I guess.

Not that this place doesn't seem great, but I'm not...interested in this hero stuff. Seems like such a big deal around here and it just weirds me out. [She pauses again, contemplating for a moment what more to say. Then she remembers something.] My friend though - Maps - would be in love with this place. If she was here I mean. If she was then she'd probably be screaming in my ear right now about getting to be a real life superhero, and going on team missions and stuff like that. I bet she'd get powers that would help her...I dunno, raid dungeons or solve puzzles? She plays a lot of roleplaying games like that sort.

[Are dungeons even a thing here? She has no clue. The town she got placed in seems like a rough area in particular, but no more rough than what she's used to seeing in Gotham City.]

...Well, okay, this is a disaster so I'm going to stop talking now and try to be a normal person.

[Hah. Normal. She wishes to be more normal.]

Baking is a favorite pastime for many people in the area I've found myself in. I do a few chores for those who cannot in their advanced age.

Since I can't in good conscience accept monetary compensation for my services, they insist they feed me, and I couldn't possibly say no to that!

To answer your question: It's fantastic pie.

[With a laugh:] It's my third task battling the fallen autumn leaves today; I suppose I am!

A knight is sworn to aid in any way he or she can! Right now, it seems, my foe is foliage. What better way to practice with these peculiar earth powers I've come upon of late?

[A small 'oh'. Whoops-] My apologies- I am Shovel Knight. At first I intended on trying to lift your chin, but instead it's talk of pie and leaves...

I confess it's a nice reprieve. I'd just finished traveling through treacherous lands I've protected for years, and faced terrible and clever foes!

We'll see how long it is before I get the itch for combat once more.

...Well. Unless an ancient tomb opens up first. I'm always up for a little treasure-hunting.

Well, that sounds like a tale! If you don't mind, of course.

How very interesting. There are many reasons two buildings would be connected via an underground passage.

I once discovered a ruined library with something similar, and as it turned out, the owner that had passed on a hundred years in the past used it to rendezvous with a lover in secret, a noble woman who was forbidden from seeing him!

Of course, perhaps in the past the passage was used to escape in case of a raid of enemy armies... it connected to a safehouse.
