...No, wait, hold on a second. This is so awkward. Hello, um, imPorts. My name is Olive. Olive Silverlock. ...And I feel like I'm introducing myself as the new kid in front of my whole class, so this is about as much fun for me as it is for you.

[She pauses, what sounds like a breath being taken slightly audible from the recording.]

So! Yeah. New kid in town. In the world. You know I feel like I heard stories about this kind of thing happening, but it only really happened to the "superheroes" from where I live. Honestly it's so weird and I feel a little bit...guilty, I guess.

Not that this place doesn't seem great, but I'm not...interested in this hero stuff. Seems like such a big deal around here and it just weirds me out. [She pauses again, contemplating for a moment what more to say. Then she remembers something.] My friend though - Maps - would be in love with this place. If she was here I mean. If she was then she'd probably be screaming in my ear right now about getting to be a real life superhero, and going on team missions and stuff like that. I bet she'd get powers that would help her...I dunno, raid dungeons or solve puzzles? She plays a lot of roleplaying games like that sort.

[Are dungeons even a thing here? She has no clue. The town she got placed in seems like a rough area in particular, but no more rough than what she's used to seeing in Gotham City.]

...Well, okay, this is a disaster so I'm going to stop talking now and try to be a normal person.

[Hah. Normal. She wishes to be more normal.]

[She pauses and looks down, contemplating. It would be nice to not have these powers at all, but if she does...she needs to learn. Just in case what happens to her mother happens to her.]

Do you have any advice on that? My powers...they're a little dangerous and I don't want to hurt anyone.

There's an imPort training center in Nonah, and the Xavier School offers power control classes. Depending on the nature of your abilities, I or someone else on the network might be able to teach you.

You teach? [A teacher. Her favorite kind of adult.] Can...I talk to you about my powers then? In private?

My power...it's the ability to create fires with my mind. I'm not sure how powerful it is, but -- well, I have reason to believe it is powerful. And dangerous.

[If what she has been learning about her mother is any indication. She wishes she could learn more, but she's not in any position to dig into more detail.]

I see- I suppose my first question is how much control do you have over it- can you control it at will, or do you start fires without meaning to- and if so, under what circumstances?

[Sabriel's tone is patient, curious. Fire can be frightening, but some Charter-spells can temper or extinguish flame. And she's right- even small fires can be dangerous.]

The government file they gave me says I can control it using my mind, but I'm not exactly eager to give it a whirl. I need to look at something and...think about it, I guess.

[She doesn't even want to think about it though.]

Well, some of my spells deal with fire, but I don't know if anyone has fire powers in particular.

I think the safest way to train- if you want to- would be in a room at Xaviers or the Nonah training center. There are fireproof rooms at both locations.

[She nods and takes a gentle breath in, trying to calm her nerves.]

Okay. That sounds good - I think it could work. Which would you prefer, if you want to teach me? It doesn't really matter to me.

I teach at the Nonah center, actually- I'm not affiliated with Xavier's. But I'm willing to get started whenever you are.

I live in Maurtia though, so if there's no way for you to help me there then I can always go to Nonah through those porters right?

Hmm... I think I'd like our first few lessons to be at the training center. Not needing to worry about making a mess is useful.

And yes, you can take the Porters- they're a useful way of getting around.

Okay. Can we start maybe next week? I just want some time to...adjust, to all this.
