Capsule 008 💊 (Video) [After Pan's post to the Network]

[Not long after Pan’s post to the network, the feed clicks on once more, broadcasting to anyone and everyone with a communicator who’ll listen. This time, it’s not Peter himself, but Kaneda, the same boy who had been called out on the feed only just 20 minutes or so ago. There’s something different about him--his shoulders are squared, his eyes dark, void of that usual glint they had. His lighthearted confidence has been replaced by authority, shaggy hair shaken out of his eyes as he regulates his breathing.

The whole event had made him nauseous, angry, even. But he was fighting to put that down right now. Now wasn't the time for this--He had other things to do than be sick. Eyes pierce the screen a moment, before he finally speaks up.

Peter, you wanted to play a game?

Fine.


Challenge goddamn accepted.]

-Listen-

[His voice, usually so light and full of life had been replaced with a pained, but grounded voice. It’s loud and authoritative, and right now, it’s one he wants people to HEAR.]

Anyone who saw that. Anyone who wants to kick Pan’s scrawny fucking ass. Anyone who wants to get Heropa back. Anyone who wants to be the DAMN HERO.

I’ll give you an HOUR. I don’t give a fuck why you’re fighting, but if you’re going to, grab your shit and meet me outside Heropa.

[A pause, as if thinking of anything else he wants to add.]

Pan. [Now he smiles, tilting his head to the side. It’s almost a little scary, that smile he gives. It’s slowly spread, and taking on a new form of confidence. His hands move, pulling out two distinctly decorated guns.] You’ve got a lot of guts calling me out like that, you know?

Don’t cry when I kick your ass. Babies are such a painnnn.

[He turns one gun in his hand, looking down the barrel and then at the handle. Kai was always the more reliable one. Lacked power, but had better aim.]

[He pauses as he tosses Ken's backpack onto his bed, pulling something out of a drawer as he works.]

[ He doesn't care if this Peter Pan knows. ]

[The harshness of his voice softens, a soft smile completely different from the vengeful one he gave Pan spreads across his face. It can't be seen, but it's certainly heard through his words.]

Oi, you need anything?


[Guns, knives, whatever. Your dad had to give you something good, but...]

[A smile at the feed.]

I'm not really in the mood to ask questions.

[He's never seen Kaneda this way but he recognizes it instantly as a mode he probably gets into as leader back home.]

Don't need an hour.

[Naturally he's already on the move -- he did the riskiest thing he's done yet here and dropped through a portal with Atoli, Yamada, and the yet-unnamed dog that Sora brought home. They're fine, though a little spooked, and he's already herded them all into a safe spot (the gym at Xavier's) so he's alone.

He's got a black ribbon wrapped along one arm, and in that hand (the opposite of the one holding his phone) is a wooden shinai -- he'll call the Keyblade, but he doesn't trust that there isn't some sort of trap waiting for him there. He's not dumb, he's encountered nullifiers before, and he's not going to put that past Peter Pan.]

Need me to bring anything besides myself?

[The warmth starts to return to Kaneda's tone at Riku's response.]

Anything you can think of. Pan's not going to make this easy.

[Because hello, who is this looming up behind him like a monster out of the fog? The distinct shape of the sledgehammer in his hands. Along with a smaller hand axe strung into his belt.]

[Dark paint like vitaar fresh and wet and blood-looking across shoulders and chest.]

This guy's just begging for a new handful of holes in his ass.

[If Kaneda let Bull stand in his way of getting everything, he certainly doesn't show it as he expertly weaves in and out of him to grab things to throw in his bag. Sabriel's knife, the bombs from his closet (oh yeah, Bull, he's been stocking bombs), Tetsuo's blanket.

He wraps the bombs up in that blanket, shoving them into his bag, pocketing his lighter and dog whistle.

It's almost like he forgets to answer for a moment.]

Can you keep up with a bike?

[Loud and authoritative are definitely things that grab Manolo's attention, and he's fumbling with his communicator before his thoughts have a chance to fully catch up with his hands. Thankfully, he at least remembers to filter his message.]

Kaneda, I want to help you.

Manolo...

[He's going to hold that phone to his ear as he starts packing the bag Ken gave him.]

You can fight?


[He's not questioning his ability. It's way more optimistic than that.]

I'll be there.

We'll wipe that smug smile off of his face and bring Heropa back.

[rassera]

Good.

[There's a hint of relief at that response. Because he knows Sabriel, and knows just what she can do.

And if Pan's going to use magic? Well...


He's got someone better at it.]


Damn asshole's not getting away with what he did to Tetsuo. Or Heropa.

[His loyalty to the city was almost nonexistant, but hell if he'll let Pan use people as playthings.]

[Ken would wear his uniform, but it's still got holes in it from last month. He instead has a peacoat on over a hoodie and long pants. He'd sewn a sturdy onto the inside where he's sliding his knife into, and by the time Kaneda finishes his message he's zipping up the pockets of his slingback bag. First aid, some chocolate, a couple water bottles, extra knives... there's something similar in a second bag that he throws toward Kaneda. It's sturdy and leather, with a flashlight keychain clipped onto the strap.]

[It's almost mechanical how he reacts to Ken's statement, reflexes working like a charm as he reaches out and snatches it in mid-air.]

...

[He nods in thanks, setting it down to inspect the insides a moment. Knives, rations, water...all of it was there. Ken had stowed some of his stash inside, as well as stuff from around the house. Resourceful kid, and something he wouldn't have even considered until too late.

But it's missing something.

Kaneda hurries over to his closet a moment, opening it up at the back before he pulls out two things--Tetsuo's blanket that Koromaru ha salvaged from the month before, and some...are those lightbulbs filled with...?]

[It takes a moment or two before Maya's able to steel her wits enough to approach him. It's a lot to take in at once, what just happened--

but this is reality now, isn't it? They've been brought in as 'heroes', with powers-- powers to help people. Powers to protect people. So maybe....]

...Kaneda.

[She isn't sure what she should do, but she has to do something. But she knows how everyone is, and she's not a leader-- not now, not yet-- so she addresses him as one. ]

What.... what do you want me to do?

[Kaneda tosses the comm onto his bed after he's done broadcasting, his whole body reading differently than it ever has before. His shoulders are hunched, riddled with the weight of everything that'd accumulated on them over the course of the past six months. His hair hung over his eyes as they bore holes into the ground. The Kaneda on the feed was certainly Kaneda. But now...now he had to collect himself to continue. It's easy to tell people that you're confident. It's much harder to tell yourself.

He'd done what he had to. And now...

His posture straightens, crouching down immediately to dig underneath his bed and to pull out a suspiciously familiar tin, popping the lid off and taking out most of its contents.

There's only a pause when he hears his name, that familiar voice practically thawing the frost off his heart.]

Maya.

[His voice is gentle, clutching his dog whistle and lighter in his hand.]

I'm going after him. I need you to--

[Tetsuo was in the next room over, and his head snaps in that direction, lip biting so hard a little blood starts to pool in one of the chapped cracks..

Fuck English for this.]


Watch over him for me.

[A hand reaches out, softly brushing along one of her arms.]

[ She's angry, but it's under control now. ]

We've got to be smart about this.

[ As much as she wants to join the group pummeling, they're facing an unknown enemy. (Or some kind of twisted version of Peter Pan? What the hell?) Anger is fine, but they can't let it cloud their judgment. ]

[He's in between packing, and from her end of the feed she may see him walk to his closet and pull out a blanket and...are those lightbulbs filled with gasoline and...?]

[she's trying so hard to be flippant, and the text function is really helping. keep yourself on lockdown and you can get through this. put everything away until you can unload it right into Pan.

Hazel's not kidding about that head start, though. she's doing one last network sweep before diving in, because she's got the feeling that the comms won't be working on the other side.]

[Kaneda slides that phone inbetween his shoulder and jawline, unzipping the shoulder bag Ken had given him.]

Thought that was pretty obvious.


Pan's gonna call me out like that, he'd better be ready.

[He's putting that name to memory for the moment. Because having a home base of operations close to Heropa's cursed border is...probably for the best.

The Porter was too necessary to make a target should Pan's army rise up.]

If you can, keep enough people there in case Pan decides to move his little playhouse towards the Porter.

[The last thing they need is this spreading to the other hubs.]

[ Kaneda's connection to Peter Pan aside, she's seen enough of the network to know that there was already a complicated enough relationship (friendship?) between Kaneda and whoever Tetsuo was. If Kaneda wanted revenge on Peter Pan for whatever happened to him, he must be important. She wants to help. (And she's also angry about losing her lab and her home. That too.) ]

My friend Marceline is giving me a lift over there. We'll both help you guys out with whatever we can, Kaneda. Need anything? Weapons? Supplies?

[He recognizes the name on the comm, eyes lighting up a little as he sees her, and more importantly, sees that she's ready for action.]

The more the merrier.

[And there it is, the hints of a tired, but stable smile.]
