Once I even saw like, these pre-cut kits so you could make sushi at home!

[Artificial fish, or REAL, ACTUAL MEAT from REAL ACTUAL ANIMALS? America's spoiled him on this and he hates it.]

[Maya's staring at them, half-squinting in her confusion.]

Uh. Fish and rice?

They even have lobsters and crabs in tanks at the store!

He means what's -IN- it.

[Preservatives, Chemicals, look if they're gonna get poisoned they want to know WHAT.]


[But at the crabs/lobsters part, he looks...well, like if you told him you could get unicorns at a horse barn. Yeah ok. He believes you.]

[Skepticism at 100%. The most unimpressed, disbelieving stare you can get. If you're gonna lie to him with impossible he wishes he could have one day? He's got his fill of stuff like that already. Don't you do this to him.]

Are you telling me you've really never eaten fish before?

Like I told ya, It's for rich people who can import it from outside the damn bay.

No one wants fish from there unless you got a death wish...

[He huffs, giving that little pout he always does as he rests his elbow on the armrest.]

America says it's fine... you believe that? Tch.

[He scuffs his foot, eyes boring holes into the floor.]

America's already in one war. Wait 'til it gets bored, and see what happens...

[Maya stops, frowning at Tetsuo in confusion.

What... was he implying? This kind of sentiment is the first of its kind that Maya's ever heard. No... Since being here she's witnessed racism-- it's just unavoidable. But she'd never thought that sentiment was a sign of an underlying problem that meant America could just as easily turn against her home country.

That just wasn't how the America in her world was.]

[But she pushes past her discomfort, swallows, and shuts her eyes tight as she regains her composure. She even motions with her hand when she swallows as if to walk herself through it. Breathes in. Breathes out. Focuses.]

You know what? Nevermind!

You wanna see the fish for yourselves? Come to the store with me!

[rassera]

[He looks to Tetsuo, for his answer.


Because congrats, Maya, you may have just talked them into it, in your own roundabout way.]

[The look Kaneda gets back isn't an unfamiliar one. Those who don't know Tetsuo as long as Kaneda has may not realize that Tetsuo's lost the fight already, even if he keeps protesting.


This is the same hesitantly petulant look Kaneda always got when Tetsuo's about to follow him into something he doesn't want to be in.]
