text;
There are things we need before we can even consider rescuing any of them.
Information, primarily speaking.
Now I don't care where it comes from or how it was obtained, I just need every scrap of information anyone has on this situation. Perhaps it's not much on an individual scale, but compiling everything into one source may grant us more insight.
I've gone ahead and created such a document, though it is locked down for security reasons- as all informative responses to this should be. I've granted some individuals access, and will continue to do so as I sort through responses. Everyone with access will have the ability to add their knowledge to it, as well as share the document with others. Moderately complex perhaps, but it's an attempt to keep the information leaks to a minimum.
There's not much there at the moment, as it only reflects my observations so far, but collaborative discussion of course is highly encouraged. I will store frequent back-up copies in case of error.
Hyperlink: Information.doc
((ooc: As the Gdoc is open to everyone, feel free to assume access- or don't, if you want your character to badger him about it instead.
Update: This post and the attached document are now under Qubit's qgeocrypt so that only devices inside the US will be able to access them. This means all captives have been locked out!))

.... Y-yes? I've spoken with him.
[So yeah, he looks just like Hermann but that's about where the similarities end. Joaquin doesn't know if he should mention he almost leaked the secret about the drift of not... He clears his throat.]
Yeah, that's right. Jaime's a great pal. Roxas is pretty quiet, but he's also pretty young. I think he's just going through usual teenager stuff. [That's very wrong but Joaquin wouldn't know.] Barnaby is too stuffy for his own good, but a good person. And Dipper... Dipper's just a kid, can't be more than twelve or thirteen.
[A deep sigh.] Yeah... I know.

That they kidnapped imPorts both young and ill suggests they were targeted at random, at least. Not to mention not all of them have particularly offensive capabilities.
[He's quiet for a few moments after that, thoughts racing while he eats, trying to think of how they'd get to them- and winces]
I just hope none of them try anything rash. Particularly if they do happen to be held in a submarine.
no subject
That's true. Maybe they can't control who they target; they just nabbed the ones they could somehow pinpoint and took what they could. Because if they only wanted ones that could be useful, or that could be used in a combative scenario, then several of them would not have been taken and other people would have been instead.
[Hermann wouldn't be here, that's for sure.]
... Can they fit that many people on a submarine?
no subject
Oh, yes. There are sizable military class submarines capable of it.. [His eyes stray to his laptop, where it's sitting up on the corner of his desk, running approximately half a dozen feeds of senseless data] I should do more research into that angle and see if perhaps I can't sort out precisely where they could be located on such a vessel.
no subject
Hey hey! Not until you finish lunch, alright? [He waved a hand, trying to get Hermann to look away from his devices.] C'mon, I won't bug you anymore as long as you do this for me.
no subject
If I didn't know better, I'd say Newton put you up to this.
no subject
Well, you should know better because he kinda did. [A beat.] But I mean, it's not like I wasn't going to come check up on you as soon as I knew Newt was gone, anyway... And if you were the one missing and he was here, I'd come check up on him too!
[He's starting to feel just a tad bit hot around the collar.]
no subject
Of course he did. [But there's just a hint of a fond smile there, and he takes a bite of his sandwich with a sigh]
You're a good friend to us, Joaquin. We may not always say as much, but we do appreciate it.
no subject
[Those words make him go quiet and he mumbles an unintelligible response before biting into his own sandwich. His own feelings on the matter a rather complex.]
no subject
Hermann strains to catch anything intelligible there]
Sorry, what was that, Joaquin?
no subject
Just... saying you shouldn't have to thank me. It's just what people should do for each other.
[Totally not special treatment or anything...]
no subject
[He's too distracted to pursue it any further, and doesn't know that he'd make for a particularly good caretaker if their positions were reversed.]
Do you think Manolo would mind checking up on Liebling now and then?
no subject
He was so fucked.]
Ah... Manolo would love to visit with Liebling. He adores her and I'm sure he's been thinking about her a lot since coming back home.
[If it hadn't been so recent, Joaquin might have suggested just sending Manolo to house-sit since Hermann was away from home so much of the time. But he selfishly didn't want to give up his friend again so quickly, while at the same time warring with wanting to do whatever he could to help Hermann out. Though, really, he should be encouraging Hermann to stay home more often, take more breaks, but it was hard to say no when he was throwing himself into work with such passion!
... Yeah. Totally fucked.]
no subject
She doesn't need much of course, and she was fine over our trip to Hong Kong, but I do worry.
[His smile fades into a scowl as his voice gradually grows more agitated]
Now Newton keeps telling me he's 'fine', although I know he isn't. He's without his medications for one thing, and confined in a small, cramped space for another. And there's absolutely nothing I can do until we know where they are!
no subject
[His voice is very fond when he speaks of Manolo but he's quick to lose that when worrying about their lost friends.]
... I know. Wish I could help more... I guess I could try again to see if I could catch a glimpse of something.
[It probably won't help, but Joaquin goes ahead and sets down his sandwich on the wrapper and reaches up to remove his eyepatch. He reveals the scarred, lidless socket with its orange-yellow glow of pupil then covers his other eye with the palm of his hand while he concentrates. That orange glow seems to intensify as he focuses.
Newton... Newton Geiszler. Jaime Reyes. Roxas.
Nothing. Static darkness.
Joaquin sighs and sits back after at least a full minute has passed.]
Nope, still can't see anything.
