01 [little bit of everything]

[Shatterstar has been to a lot of strange places, and seen a lot of strange things, but this device is new to him. He's been told that the similar devices back from the version of earth he's from are called "smartphones" (he assumes this is ironic, as they don't even have the barest A.I. capability), but the ones he's seen before don't have functions like this.

What ends up being broadcast is: first a recording of what seems to be several seconds of silence followed by the muffled sound of something like the snapping of fingers. Then there's a video, footage of a few seconds of what looks like a deserted alleyway. He's testing out its functions; he's not dumb enough to let himself get recorded while he does it. At least not until he knows the nature of his enemy.

Then, finally, there's text.]

This is Shatterstar. If my teammates are out there and can respond, do so. I'll find you.

To the villains behind this farce, know this. If you think you can control me, you are laughably mistaken. I have bested far more capable than you. Your "government" does not intimidate a warrior born.

[Okay, that last bit he just threw in for fun. Let them come after him. He could use a workout, if they even proved to be that skilled.]

What if they're making the best out of a bad situation?

[Which, frankly, M doesn't believe, but he's curious about the guy's thoughts all the same.]

Then they're simply incompetent. I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt by assuming there was some intent behind it.

From what I can gather it's someone's intent, but who's is up for debate.

What else have you gathered?

Before imPorts got spit out to this world, they got spit out to another one. Something happened and that one got destroyed, but some of those imPorts are still around. According to them, there was this woman named Lachesis who brought them all to that last world, but since they've got here, they haven't heard a peep. And from what I've gathered, that lady used to be pretty chatty before.

The name Lachesis has popped up several times that I can find, but to my knowledge none of them are the actual Lachesis.

It's also not proven she's still the one bringing us here.

Would you be able to put me in contact with some of these older imPorts? I'm interested in gathering as much information as I can.

Don't know any of them.

Everything I've heard so far is second hand, but the story stays consistent so I feel like there's some truth there.

Seems some sort of unwritten rule that if you kick copious amounts of ass, you need to have a catchy name.

I've gotta admit, Shatterstar's a bit catchier than Midnighter.

It is catchy, isn't it? But I can tell you that Midnighter wouldn't have been out of place in the arena. Perhaps we could test each others' mettle someday.
