VOICE || Terran calendars 101

Okay. [ There's no preamble, no introduction. Just Rocket's unmistakable voice, sounding as irritated as ever. ] I thought I had a pretty good handle on the way you Terrans did your calendar. Earth rotates around its axis: day. Earth rotates around the sun: year. Pretty standard. All the stuff in between is chopped up inta arbitrary "months" that don't make much sense, but hey, ya stick on every wall and on the communicators so at least I can kinda keep track.

It ain't perfect. Kind of annoying, but I don't expect a whole lot from you Terrans anyway.

That said, how the hell did I end up missin' a month and a half?

Last I looked it was all trees and snow and... "kris-mas". [ The air quotes are practically audible. ] Now it's all red and pink and... and kinda an assault on the senses, honestly. What is with you people? Somebody fill me in here.

[ There's a bit of a pause, and he seems to be ending it there. Until, as an afterthought, he adds: ]

Quill, you better still have my stuff or I'm gonna kick your ass.

The moment the clock strikes midnight on the fifteenth. Then everything that's pink, red, heart-shaped, or all of the above goes on sale.

If nothing else, you can get a lot of candy out of it afterwards.

I can't really do the whole ice cream thing, personally. It's pretty tragic.

I dunno what they've got out in space, actually. I never had ice cream before I came here.

Sounds like Peter needs to take you out for some frozen treats. What about milkshakes? Have you tried those? I've heard they're good too.

Sure is. It's ice cream blended together with milk, basically. Like ice cream in drink form...?

Speakin’ of drinks, someone told me the next big holiday has green beer.

A lot of people seem to enjoy them, so I'd bet that they're good. Also, ice cream also comes in the form of sandwiches, can be deep-fried, made into cakes... you're in for a whole lot of exploring. Let me know how all of that goes when you try it.

[ And then there's a beat, because... is green beer supposed to be strange or festive... oh, right. Alcohol does not ordinarily come in green in this day and age. Also, St. Patrick's Day. ]

Ah, right. Good old St. Patrick's Day. If red and pink are Valentine's Day colors, everything turns green and Irish for St. Patty's day. It'll be fun!

[ She would like to point out a specific example of an Irish person that Rocket might know or could look up or something, but nothing really comes to mind. ]

... Quill is probably, like, one-sixteenth Irish or something?

Anyway, everything turns green on St. Patrick's Day to celebrate Irish culture... or something to that effect.

Mostly people just use it as an excuse to wear green everything and get really drunk.
