Okay. [ There's no preamble, no introduction. Just Rocket's unmistakable voice, sounding as irritated as ever. ] I thought I had a pretty good handle on the way you Terrans did your calendar. Earth rotates around its axis: day. Earth rotates around the sun: year. Pretty standard. All the stuff in between is chopped up inta arbitrary "months" that don't make much sense, but hey, ya stick on every wall and on the communicators so at least I can kinda keep track.

It ain't perfect. Kind of annoying, but I don't expect a whole lot from you Terrans anyway.

That said, how the hell did I end up missin' a month and a half?

Last I looked it was all trees and snow and... "kris-mas". [ The air quotes are practically audible. ] Now it's all red and pink and... and kinda an assault on the senses, honestly. What is with you people? Somebody fill me in here.

[ There's a bit of a pause, and he seems to be ending it there. Until, as an afterthought, he adds: ]

Quill, you better still have my stuff or I'm gonna kick your ass.

[ Peter just kind of. Stares at the comm device in his hand for several long moments, because that voice is too distinctive, the words too Rocket, to be anyone else and-- that's. That's bad, right? Because that means Rocket's stuck here again, and who the hell wants to be stuck here? This place sucks.

(That's rude, Peter. This place isn't so terrible, Cold War antics aside.)

So, yes, that's bad. Kidnapping in general is bad -- we can all agree on that. And in general, Peter has resented being grounded here for as long as he has -- over a year, now. Long enough that he's spent two birthdays here, which is bullshit. But a small, shameful part of him is relieved that this pint-sized, disgruntled furbag is back, which is why he grins.

It takes a second or two before he finds his voice. ]

[ He sounds-- oddly happy? Despite the gruffness he tries to inject into his voice.

And, in true Quill fashion, he adds, ]

[ His tone is extremely dry, but there's a part of him that's relieved to know that the Terran (well this Terran) is still around. ]

Yeah, I have. We can't all be lucky enough to take a quick jaunt back home, just to avoid the holidays.

Not that she minds, even if it kind of hurt to hear how little Peter seemed to care about the folks he's met here (you know, like Charlie and herself, maybe). Mostly it was a testament to how important his crew must be to him. ]

The colours and decorations are in preparation for Valentine's Day. They symbolize love, the theme of the holiday.

Months are broken up based on lunar cycles, seasons, and politics. The change in store decorations is to encourage people to buy more things for people based on arbitrarily emphasized holidays.

Well, it's supposed to be about couples being together, giving each other candies, roses and sweet stuff. I heard it's done differently in Japan, so I wanna go see how they do things there!

Sometimes the porter acts up and you just sort of wake up one day and it's not actually the next day. I lost the entire month of October that way.

...And yeah, Valentine's Day--all the red and pink--can be a bit much. ...A lot much.
