flight 002 ☄ [video]

[Kay is seated on the top step of the courthouse, looking particularly thoughtful - solemn compared to her ostentatious intro nearly a month ago. She just got out from her job as a juror-in-training at teen court, and she looks a bit exhausted.]

Well...you know what they say - justice never sleeps! [She laughs shortly, but lapses back into a more serious attitude.] Unfortunately, crime doesn't sleep, either. Unless that's how a supervillain plans on taking over the world - by somehow using sleep.

[She runs a hand through her bangs, stopping short of her particularly high ponytail and that ridiculously large key in her hair.]

Okay, after running into exploding trains, mechanical sharks and monsters who could've walked out of a horror movie, I've decided that I wanna learn how to fight. [Kay sets her jaw.] I wanna learn how to use a weapon - a gun, a knife, anything, even my own fists. I could ask my crow friends to fight for me, but...I don't want to depend on them all the time.

[Pause. Kay frowns; more importantly, she doesn't want to see a crow die because she sent it to fight for her. Plus, replicating sounds and voices she hears aren't going to cut it.]

I give a pretty mean dropkick, but...yeah. There are gonna be villains out there who won't go down with a single kick.

...

I promise I'll attend every lesson.

And did you believe them then? Now?

It's not a bad thing to want to be sure. I was curious, that's all.

I don't believe 'friends' consider themselves dragged in unwillingly. They want to help the people who are important to them. Birds aren't all that different from people on that point, from the sounds of things.

And so it's a mutual thing.

[ Which was her point, obliquely reached, from the start. She might have offered assistance, given what she can do with self defense, but to her, it's not what Kay's looking for. Annie doesn't primarily fight for the sake of fighting, though she feels Kay will need to learn a style that suits her size and frame. Going toe to toe with someone larger, stronger, and heavier than she is, she'll need to have some idea of using that against them. ]

Will you be using what you learn to defend yourself? Or to be aggressive in the pursuit of others?

Learning how to respond in a disaster situation is intelligent, especially if we're required to respond to situations like that. It's not fighting, but it takes guts. You'll do fine. With both parts, but fighting isn't all that you want.

The "place" being Earth, the United States, or the military we've been brought in by?

Then you've already placed yourself to start understanding the military here. Keep your eyes open. Pay attention. Ask questions when you can. See how the soldiers who belong to this world behave, when they're not outsiders without a sense of community.
