If someone were to discover that they possessed an ability that had the potential to endanger the lives of those around them, what sort of options would they be looking at?
Other than resorting to criminal detainment of course, and where learning control is not an option, as it simply doesn't function in a controllable manner.
So essentially what I'm asking is, is it possible to voluntarily arrange for import abilities to be suppressed? Are there any non-permanent options? What sort of side-effects could one expect from undergoing such a process?
You'll have to forgive the lack of details I'm afraid, as they aren't mine to share.
[He's asking for a friend okay. Yeah when's the last time anyone bought that. Still though, it's true.]
Feel free to list any contacts you may have regarding this issue.
Thank you.

Newt is terrible and a lot of talk about keeping his power secret, but he did disclose one power to your enemy Kavinsky just to obtain a dragon. We have priorities here. Are they good priorities, we don't know.]Awareness is great, but the more people a power is disclosed to, the more I run the risk of it accidentally (and possibly through no fault of you own) falling into other hands. Given what my power is, I think an enterprising villain might find a way to use it should he or she find a way to obtain some of the material.
That said: Likely to interact with it on a day to day basis? Not necessarily. The people/animals I live with run the greatest risk and, no offense, they're the ones I'm most interested in protecting from it. And since at least one has claws and they all have teeth, it's a valid concern.
When shit goes down and the Russians or Crane or some other stupid son-of-a-bitch attacks? A good chance.
Does it look dangerous? To me, it does. To someone else, possibly, it may look abnormal. From there, depending on THEM, they either decide "it's weird therefore it's dangerous--No Touchy" or they decide to overlook that instinct to help me...at which point, while I'd like to applaud their bravery, I might not be in a position to advise how best to handle the issue.

Short of that, then raising awareness of the hazard is the best way to ensure people don’t get hurt. I do understand your desire for privacy, though, and if there’s animals at risk too, then obviously you can’t really raise their awareness.
People with infectious diseases tend to be quarantined. This sounds somewhat similar to that, but if it’s your power that’s the problem, I don’t think you’d need to quarantine yourself – just the ability.
