001; Video
[ The video begins with a man dressed in a fancy black and gold trimmed tunic, a mockingbird pin adorning his collar and a Narnia hunting pin in bird form adorning his sleeve. ]
Greetings to my fellow imPorts.
[ Petyr Baelish inclines his head in a completely formally informal greeting. It's strange to him, after all, to address people at large through something as tiny as this communicator. And he does seem a bit awkward using the device. ]
My name is Petyr Baelish -- once Lord now turned imPort. As you can probably tell, I am not from a world that is anything like the one we currently reside within. I have been here for approximately two months by your calendar, and have used that time to learn the land, its systems, the customs, the technology -- all the things that may have made for irritating or repetitive questions had I chosen to address the network immediately.
So given this passage of time, I feel I can come to you with better questions. Or rather, I am curious about your opinions on matters I do not see so often discussed. People often ask for the factual information, but rarely the opinions of others. So allow me this moment to pick your minds in what I hope will be a fine discussion. What are your thoughts on this war we have found ourselves in? Do you think it pointless? Do you wish it were over? How would you end it, if you could?
[ A beat. ]
I also find myself curious about how you perceive our ambassadors? This is the only position offered to imPorts currently that puts them in close contact with this country's government. Do you feel as though they are doing all they can to make a difference? What positive things can you attribute to them? And subsequently, are there things you believe they can improve? Perhaps most importantly of all, do you believe we have the right men for the task at hand?
I believe all of these topics are fair to discuss, given the nature of this world's democracy. We would not run the risk of any unwarranted beheadings for saying something someone dislikes. [ He flashes the briefest of smiles. He's joking. Totally. Such things are so archaic and can totally be laughed about, right? ] But I also believe discussion to be the key toward improvement, toward seeing change. Something as simple as one single thought or idea can be planted and grow exponentially. Like seed to a field of crops or perhaps ash to a wildfire.
Should there be any questions you wish to ask of me as well, please by all means, I am open to discussion. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions.

It's bloody idiotic, is what it is. The war. It's not even about anything of any consequence. Just a bunch of prideful idiots proving they can be more prideful than all the other idiots. I'd like to bloody slap each and every one of them.
video
Yes, I do agree.
[ He's having a discussion with a talking cat. Lord help him. ]
Most wars are about prideful fools fighting one another for nothing worthwhile -- power, land, even titles. But perhaps most unfortunate of all, is that we are something of a catalyst for this war. Do you believe both sides view us as weapons and nothing more than that?

[ Hey bro. Dorian idly gives the camera a small, lazy wave. ] You know how I feel about one ambassador, shall I inform you about the others?

[ The powers in this world are just bizarre. He still hasn't even gotten used to his own. ]
But I would be highly interested in your opinion on the others. After all, you are not afraid to speak the truths, no matter how ugly or unwanted they may be.

So let's begin with this war. Both sides are going about it all wrong, quite frankly. Kidnapping and brainwashing and bombing... it's all so terribly disgraceful. [She shakes her head.] Now, I do believe the Americans have been somewhat less disgraceful than the Soviets, but there's still far too much ambiguity for my liking. I would much prefer a very clear, very evil enemy and proper, honourable combat.
[ He must be adaptable, and this is a Princess, after all! That deserves the appropriate amount of respect. ]
The unfortunate thing about war is that it is never graceful. Often times those with the most honor are the ones who fall first. An injustice, of course. But one I have seen far too many times to be a mere coincidence. I do agree that we are kept in the dark and I believe that is on purpose. Our hosts fear us having that information. Knowledge is power, and they intend to Lord that power over us -- treating us kindly and expecting our aid in return. Make of that what you will.
[ But Petyr does hope she regards it with skepticism, the way anyone should. What if in the end, it turns out the Americans are not the ones they should be supporting? ]

There does seem to be a small contingent of us feudalists here, so you're not completely alone in that respect.
And no, it's not treasonous to be as critical as you like. [ A slight, opaque wisp of a smile, there and then gone. ] Though I'm not sure I've much to say of value on the ambassadorial system. I've always gone straight to the government contacts during crises without waiting for a middleman. [ Gregor is perhaps unaccustomed to dealing with middlemen. ]
Ditto!
A small comfort, to say the least. Considering we come from all walks of life, it is nice to know there are a few who come from similar systems.
[ But more interesting is this young man's views. ]
So do you believe it pointless to have these ambassadors in the first place? To me, I do agree it is more effective to jump ahead in this chain of command. But without them to be a stepping stone, I do not believe we imPorts have much of a chance of holding any other governmental position.

As far as ambassadors and war goes, I can't say I've been here long enough for much insight. The ambassadors I don't even know all the names of, or what exactly they're there to do, but the war... [Sam cocks his head, looks thoughtful.]
Well, it's a little eerie that it's happenin' at all, seein' as it's something we avoided where I'm from. Same basic set-up, real different results. Not exactly excited to be seein' what looks like the McCarthy Trials gearin' up to start over again either. People lookin' for reasons to spread fear so they can get their own agendas across. Divide an' conquer.
video;
So you are saying you faced this same war in your world? And it, what? Came to an end? What happened to bring about that ending and do you believe that is something that can be replicated within this world?

[ And doesn't that mean it's well past time to get these opinions out in the open? ]
But as for my feelings on the matter, I am starting to fear from talking to other imPorts that the job of ambassador seems irrelevant. Not the fault of any of the three of you, but people either do not notice the efforts you've made or simply do not care.
[ And what is the point of becoming an ambassador if it won't have the appropriate influence? ]
I will not say it is something I am aspiring toward so much as if the opportunity arose, I would quite possibly run for the position. There is much I must first learn about this world and its politics, you understand. But I do like to keep myself open to all possibilities.

You are not wrong in your assumption. It only takes the right spark to ignite a war, and often times that spark is something rather insignificant, ultimately leading to more power for one party. We, as humans, so often desire far more than we can conceivably obtain.
Am I to assume your kind is different?
