Good evening, my friends. As his probation officer, I feel it is my duty to inform you that Death the Kid has departed from this universe.

[Pause]

A pity, really. He only had a few days remaining on his sentence. I was looking forward to recommending his freedom from government supervision.

Now then, there is another matter I wish to discuss. I have been considering the role of emotion in the matters of power. ImPort abilities often seem tied to how we feel. Passions such as anger and fear can threaten our control, yet they can also spur our powers to greater heights in times of need.

In my Galaxy, there are two philosophies which have debated these issues for many thousands of years. One believes in the denial of passion. They insist upon tranquility and harmony. It is their belief that only a calm heart, without attachments, can attain true wisdom in serving others. They do not even allow themselves to fall in love...

[The Count's voice drops slightly, becoming a touch darker.]

The other perspective calls this a lie. It accepts passion as the truth of all living things, and draws power from it. It teaches that even the strongest of emotions can be embraced, and disciplined, and used to great effect.

I would be interested to know what my fellow imPorts think on this matter. Are our feelings to be repressed, or embraced? Which path do you believe will lead to greater fulfillment?

There are a great many who share your beliefs, Manolo. They are natural.

Yet there are also those who would say their own happiness means nothing against the duty to serve others... and that love risks attaching one's energies to the benefit of a fortunate few, rather than the greater good of the many. In my Galaxy, those who think in such ways are considered wise. I wonder, what might you say to them in response?

Me? I wouldn't be half the man I am today without love in my life. I don't understand why you must give up one for the other, or why that is wise. Many police officers and soldiers serve others while also allowing themselves to have marriage and family, and they do their jobs just fine. Actually, I would say they might even do their jobs better because they have people they passionately want to protect.

I think you would be entirely correct in such a response. How unfortunate that so many supposedly wise beings in my world could never practice such wisdom in their own lives. I am pleased that so many imPorts recognize the folly of such a path.

Well, I think it’s like you say...so many of our powers are controlled by emotion. I wouldn’t be able to use my abilities without letting myself feel emotions. Doing anything else would be like wasting a gift, no?

Precisely. And our gifts are something to be used, not to be cast aside out of fear and doubt. Just think: many lives would be the poorer if imPorts did not make full use of their powers?

My abilities are also fueled by strong passions. Without emotion, without feeling, neither of us would be the people we are today, Manolo.

Yes, I agree with you! As long as we're here in this world, we should share our gifts with as many people as we can.

[That piques his interest.] You too? What are your powers? If it's okay to ask, I mean.

[The Count is stroking his beard on the other end of the line.]

Forgive me Manolo, but I prefer not to discuss my abilities openly over the Network. For reasons of security, you see. Suffice it to say that they, too, require great feeling to reach their full potential.

Oh. Security. I see... [He's a bit apologetic for asking a potentially personal question, but there's some disappointment in his voice too.] Sometimes I wonder if I'm using my powers to my full potential. You have obviously accomplished many things in your life, so you must have lots of wisdom to share too. Do you have any advice?

[Dooku smiles at that question. Another willing and eager apprentice for his teachings... excellent. Manolo doesn't have a fraction of the potential that Ken Kaneki did, but the Count is confident he could be useful nonetheless.]

Certainly, my friend. I would be pleased to advise you in these matters... and I have much to share. Perhaps we should meet in person sometime soon, and discuss these things over tea.

Really? [On the other end of the line, Manolo perks up with a smile, blissfully unaware of the Count’s true thoughts.] You are not too busy? I know you’ve been working hard on your music career these days, so…

It is no trouble at all. I have been hard at work on many priorities... including assisting my fellow imPorts.

Perhaps we could combine our interests. You could tell me more about being a musician, while I give you advice regarding your powers.

Hahah, I don't know what I could say that you don't already know by now, but...alright! That sounds like it would be great. We could meet in Maurtia Falls. You still live there, yes?
