[it's just a text, a simple little note for everyone to read. He wants to know how easily this can go or if he should just...try other things.
Lets see....]
I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Do you believe people can be redeemed for the crimes they've committed back in the world they came from? Is it at all possible? I question this. We have many horrible people in our midst so I wonder what should I do?
[not really but if he makes this sound sappy enough people might not think it's him.]

rip out little girl's heart who ruined his toying of the Pines too soon. Stupid digital age and saving incriminating evidence. ]
Well, lets say for argument's sake they haven't murdered. They've done something else. Abuse power, humiliate another, that sort of thing.
What then?

Very few people can be redeemed. But I wouldn't speak in absolutes.

Surprising to hear that from a doctor of the mind. I thought that's what people in your profession were supposed to do.

it depends on the crime, and on whether they want to redeem themselves at all.
there are horrible people everywhere, you'd best get used to it.

but no. He'll do that privately and in no reference to this post. He can't have the imPort public thinking they're unsafe talking to anons. How scandalous would that be? And unhelpful. ]
I have been use to it for awhile. The things i've dealt with...I shudder to imagine it again.
Still, what would your idea of punishment be if they can't be redeemed?

Of course it's possible -- not everyone can do it, but not everyone can whistle, either. You just have to want it bad enough.

And if the offender can never be forgiven? Do you still think redemption is a noble goal?

But people can change.
Just because a serial killer becomes a charity working saint, doesn't mean they didn't kill a whole bunch of people once upon a time. Doesn't take away from the good work they're doing now either.

That would be the response of a lawyer.

Because either way, we can't affect our worlds from here. And the rules here don't always reflect those that existed wherever we're from. At any rate, we won't even remember this place if we're sent back home...
[So it all seems rather pointless trying.]

[ Because Pan is sure as hell not going back to death if he can help it. ]
But to answer your question, we'll go with penance.

This place offers a second chance to many people. Shouldn't we facilitate that change?

Re: text

Maybe that's naive or idealistic of me, but. That's what I'd want to believe. If they are sorry for whatever it is they did. Doesn't change that they did it, but it wouldn't make any attempts to change themselves now for the better either.

But, I think you're right.

There are complications: backsliding, focusing on the wrong things, distractions. The usual.

[ He nearly wants to vomit at this but also laugh. Rumple, dear rumple talking to anon? How foolish. Pan believes nothing of this. Rumple could never change despite everything he sacrificed to stop Pan? It's laughable. ]
Have you ever stopped yourself from falling down that slope?

Depends on what you mean by "redeemed." If you're talking about some karmic annulment of what you've done, then no. It's not a zero-sum equation.
