[The video starts by showing a tired young man, sitting in a rather plain bedroom. His hair's a little messed up, and he's still wearing the clothes he arrived in, a blue coat draped over his usual red suit.]

I should be trying to sleep, but I don't think I can. Not after everything that's happened today. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

I'm Apollo Justice, and... I don't want to be here. There's not much else I can say about it. I was in the middle of an important investigation, and being kidnapped to- to wherever this is, and given weird powers by a bunch of military guys, wasn't exactly on my agenda! I'd just like to thank whoever had this bright idea, or whatever cosmic force decided it'd be funny to keep me from finding out the truth-!

[He squeezes his eyes shut and takes a deep breath, sounding a little calmer when he continues,] ... Okay. I'm fine. Tomorrow, I'll try to get my bearings and find out more about this place. It's not like I have much of a choice.

[ There's a moment of silence before he responds. There's something going on here, and he's going to going to get to the bottom of it. ]

[Nearly immediately after Apollo's reply starts, there's a sound of rattling chains. They come out of nowhere, trapping Apollo behind the web, five psyche locks slamming down into place along with it.

Apollo has no idea what Phoenix is seeing, of course. His expression just gets harder before he replies,]

That's because I was injured, Mr. Wright. Someone bombed the courtroom right in the middle of my trial.

[ ... Psychelocks. On Apollo. But the figurative bomb Apollo drops next is almost enough to distract him from it.

What? How? Was anyone hurt? [ And more importantly, why are there psychelocks? Why would he lie about the reason for stepping out of a trial? ]

The 'how' is a little complicated, but... when you have dangerous evidence on hand, it's like asking for someone to tamper with it.

... I was the only one hurt. I was already out of the hospital before I got here, and somehow, I was completely healed when I arrived. [Conveniently leaving out that he hadn't been so much released as he broke himself out of the hospital, but it's not all that relevant.]

[ Who would ever think bringing in a bomb to a courtroom would be a good idea?? ]

They do that for you. [ He's still not satisfied...

He needs to learn more. ] Was it the defendant trying to make a run for it?

What?! No! Mr. Starbuck is definitely innocent!

... They determined that the bomb disposal officer was the one that reactivated it, to cover up how he murdered a detective.

Did they also determine why he murdered the detective?

Yeah. I wasn't present at that trial, but I heard about how it ended. It seems he'd been stealing disarmed bombs to sell on the black market, and when the detective caught him in the act... he whacked her with it. Literally.

It sounds like a complicated trial... within a trial. What was the original trial for?

... Murder. That's what Mr. Starbuck was accused of.

[ Murder. It's nothing new, but there's something about the look on his face. ]

How did you come about defending him?

Well, I've known him since I was a kid. After what happened, I... I had to defend him! I knew he'd never do something like that!

[ For a moment, this is an all too familiar story, but just as quickly, it's gone, because Apollo is nothing like him. Thankfully. ]

Always trust in your client. It's a good lesson to take to heart. [ So if it's not about the defendant, then... ] So what was the case?

Sure, [Apollo says in response to Phoenix's usual advice, though he almost mumbles the word.] The... victim was Mr. Starbuck's partner. They were all set to go on a mission into space when a couple of bombs went off. The murder happened while everyone was being evacuated.
