[ For those familiar with his face, Shepard seems ... younger, somehow. Not by much, but there are fewer lines creasing his forehead and the corners of his eyes. His posture's slightly different, too, shoulders squared and spine straight even as he almost hums with alertness. ]

I'm Commander Shepard. I've been told I've been here before, but apparently I'm missing a few things. I don't recognize most of the faces on this network.

[ His voice is scratchy, hoarse from use -- or lack of it? He's had the time to go through his communicator record -- lucky it wasn't locked -- and what he's seen has mostly added to his growing confusion. Although he conceals it well, the frustration with the inability to understand what's happening grates on him. ]

Am I the only one having issues with memory loss? Is this something that happens a lot here?

[ There's audible hesitation in Shepard's voice when he responds, though his expression doesn't shift much. Mental manipulation never sounds good. ]

What would you need me to do?

[divaricate]

[He'd be right -- mental manipulation can be bad. Actually, it can be very bad. But she learned that lesson the long and hard way over a year ago in her world, and isn't at all eager for a repeat performance of that in any universe, so she wouldn't intentionally do anything malicious with it. Plus, doing such things with it wouldn't be conducive to her desire for people to not fear her for her abilities.]

I could meet you wherever you're most comfortable, then try to locate any buried memories that are lost in your mind and bring them back for you.

[ Asking her back to the apartment isn't something he's willing to do, but he's not sure about the best place to meet up ... there isn't really anything 'comfortable' when everything's so unfamiliar. After a couple of minutes, he sends over the address of a cafe about three blocks from the apartment in Heropa. ]

Does that work? How soon could you come over?

[divaricate]

[She reads the address and nods.] I can do that. I can be on my way now, should be .. thirty minutes or so?

[ He's there a little early, actually, just because he doesn't really have anywhere else to be. ]
