Some people seem to have had their memories tampered with. We're still working out the cause- [Okay, Gansey told her Billy did it, but exposing a small child to retaliation is appalling. Billy can deal with the consequences one he's his proper age.]- but there is a possibility it's some sort of magic.

I know we've had some new arrivals- is there anyone here with magical skill who's interested in working with me to get to the bottom of this? If it is magic, the mage responsible has most likely anchored it to some object- if we can find out where they hid it, we can probably find a way to unravel the spell.

Mr. Gray, have you ever studied magic? Unless this was the intended affect, the spell has gone out of control. If a mage is responsible, they may be unable to fix it even if they want to- especially if they've been affected and lost all memory of the spell.

Surely there couldn't possibly be someone so...so inept that they managed to make a spell that affected themselves.

[ after all, Dorian only knows one person that's powerful enough to do this sort of magic spell and inept enough to fuck it up, oh just wait a damn minute. ]

[Well, this is... something. It certainly explains a lot of the irregularities of the past week. But that hardly makes it reassuring.]

What if the, um, victims don't want the spell undone?

All of them, or just some of them? Because I don't think it's possible for us to undo the spell halfway.

[Jesse certainly can't speak for all of them. No, he's sure for most people, it would be far better to have their real memories back. He's not selfish enough to make a demand that would affect everyone.]

I suppose my first concerns are about the severity of this. You say memories have been affected, but to what degree? And to how many people? Is there a risk of it spreading further or growing stronger perhaps?

I know I'm not affected because my memories agree with several people's who remember the same things as I do- and records on the network corroborate those memories. Those who are affected are all remembering different things.

What about actually identifying the object? Is there magic that can do that, so that we know we have the right thing?

When I spoke with Billy he promised he'd be taking it down himself. Has something happened since then?

...And I... wouldn't be able to find the spell source, but I'd be able to see it, if he's locked it to something specific. I also may be able to, er, pry it loose, if we found it. Dissipate it, I mean. It's the ability I've got.

Billy is a child, and we're not sure if he remembers where he put the object- and we're reasonably sure he anchored it to something physical and hid it.

But if you can help undo the spell, I'd appreciate the help.

[No wonder he couldn't get any solid data on it, no wonder the effects were (from what he's seen) so wildly inconsistent. No wonder it managed to affect him, too. He sighs.]

If that's the case, I'm afraid I'll have to leave it to your expertise. You're sure it'll be as simple as that, though? What sort of object could he have used?

Something small, but not minuscule- something that could be moved around easily, but not so tiny it would be easily lost, and probably not technological in nature. The exact materials would depend on the caster, but I'd suspect wood or metal- again, that's just a guess at this point.
