[ Kanaya is sitting at her desk, with Ashiah laying down on it in front of her. The little grub keeps glancing around in various directions, while her mother's gaze and smile is fixed on the camera. ]

I've been thinking recently about the cross-section of the imPort community who aren't human, perhaps most particularly since the ambassador elections last month. There are a sizable amount of us, not a large group, but significant. I've spoken with many of you on individual terms, and while the resources Governor Kang and SELF have provided to those of us with more unique needs have been invaluable, I feel there is still something missing in our collective socialization. We live the imPort experience in a way that many others won't fully appreciate, and I think we could benefit from sharing those experiences with each other.

[ At this point, Ashiah tries to wander off camera, but Kanaya suppresses a giggle as she puts a hand on top of her and scoots her back into place. ]

I'm unsure exactly what form that would take, but putting us all in a room to share our stories would be at least a start. If anyone is interested, please let me know, and I'll see about renting some space. Of course, if you have any special dietary needs, in terms of snacks, I would like to hear those as well.

This is generally something I'd prefer to save until we're in person, but... [ She's interrupted as Ashiah turns around and nuzzles into her chest, then tries to climb up her shoulder. Kanaya stops and laughs to herself, then plucks her off and cradles her, despite all her fidgeting. ] Anyway, for those of you who I haven't had the pleasure with yet, my name is Kanaya Maryam, and this is my daughter, Ashiah. I'm an Alternian troll, specifically an awakened jadeblood, which basically means I'm a vampire. She's a Daughter Grub from the same planet. [ She raises a finger, shaking her head. ] And before you ask, no, she isn't a troll, and she won't grow up to be one, either. Once she finally pupates, she'll become a Mother Grub. They acted as gestational surrogates for trolls, while the jadeblooded caste were their caretakers and midwives. It's all a bit complicated, this is just a general summary.

So, hopefully we'll be able to put something together moving forward, and I'll be able to hear all of your stories, as well. I'll be looking forward to hearing from each of you.

I did have the explicitly carnivorous in mind, I do admit. They are very common -- though, perhaps, less so on this world.

But yes, that does mean that I will not be having ice cream. I do not feel as though I'm missing out; there are few treats as delightful as a good sorbet!

I'm not sure I'm really familiar with the difference! Neither tend to come in blood flavor unless I make my own recipe.

Well... one has dairy in it, and the other does not.

I couldn't possibly make the comparison either, for I have never so much as tried ice cream. I'm simply just as happy having never tried it. Though I'm positive that a blood sorbet is within the realms of possibility, should you ever wish to try it.

Well, I have plenty of blood, if you want to help me make it into a sorbet! Unless...nevermind.

[ Just idly wondering if Walker's blood is any better than human. No big deal. ]

Unless what? You can tell me, Kanaya.

It's stupid, and mostly a joke. But, uh.

[He's quiet for a moment, mulling it over.]

It would feel rather odd to make a sorbet out of my own blood, [he muses,] but should it not turn out well, it would likely be preferable than wasting blood donated to you by another. But would my blood even be compatible with your digestive system?

I wouldn't worry about wasting the blood I already have, most of it is synthetic garbage. I haven't had a regular donor in...a very long time.

As for compatibility, I couldn't really say without trying. I've encountered more blood I could digest than what I couldn't. I would think you'd have as good a chance as humans did, before I'd ever tried them.

Either way, it's nothing I'd want to entertain if you aren't comfortable with the prospect.

[He's quiet for another moment, mostly because he needs to think it over. The very soul of generosity he may be, but giving away one's own blood is something that requires more than an instinctual need to say yes.

But drawing blood is a simple enough task, even an integral task for many, and he can't imagine it would be too big of a trial, particularly not for one such as himself. He nods, decision evidently made.]

I'd certainly be willing to try! Provided that my blood proves to be better than the one that you currently have access to, that is. To live off of the bare essentials is doable, certainly, but good food is rather the spice of life, don't you think? If I can assist in my own, way, I will.

Trust me, I know the joys of good food, even if it's been a while. But it's a little more difficult to arrange, when you have my diet.

I only wish that you had mentioned something sooner into our acquaintance! It is such a trifling thing to me in the long run, but far more significant to you. Though now, I must ask, how is it that blood is extracted? Through a needle, or through more organic means?

[He taps his mouth meaningfully. They may not have vampires on Astonia, but they certainly have bloodsuckers of a different variety.]

Well, that's really up to you. I mean, under normal circumstances, my fangs aren't just for show. But if you're going to be making a sorbet out of it, a needle might be more convenient.

Perhaps you should try it in its original form first, just to make sure. There is no use in expending extra effort to make something out of it when we are not yet one hundred percent sure that it's digestible for you, correct?

Well, I mean. If you're alright with that. It is your blood.

I assure you, I never offer anything that I am uncomfortable offering. Knowing one's own personal boundaries is an important thing!

Okay. [ God, she's really gotten rusty with negotiating these things. ] Then, I suppose we should just arrange a time to test.

Indeed! I believe I will leave that up to you; I have gotten the impression that your schedule is much more busy, and indeed, more fixed than my own. My occupation takes up little of my time, you see, and my students are flexible by nature.

[he teaches hippies how to be bigger hippies for a living]

Well then, I'll find an opening in my schedule. This weekend, perhaps?

That sounds splendid! Oh, but do tell me -- does your inability to eat food extend to drinks as well, or are you able to enjoy different beverages?

On that topic, I think there's a distinction to be made between consumption and enjoyment. I can't really taste anything that isn't blood, but sometimes I'll catch hints of things that are mixed with blood.

I see! In that case, I will not bring tea, although... Hm. [He tilts his head, considering.] I can only imagine my blood would taste rather pure in that case.

By all means, bring the tea! I may not be able to taste it, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the familiarity. Though I think it would be worth sampling the pure form, at least.

I really can't say how much purer any sort might be over another, often they don't taste quite like what you'd think. Except magic god blood. That tastes exactly as you'd expect.
