Do all names have meaning?
I thought they were only sounds. Things you knew to answer to. I was wrong.
What meanings are there? To... anyone who reads this?
[He really could have phrased it better, but "what does your name mean" sounds too informal for his liking, so there you go.]

My name roughly translates to 'God's beloved soldier', and I'm neither religious nor a soldier. But seeing as people don't generally choose their own names, that sort of fallacy can only be expected.

Can't humans do that?

"Haise" is written with Japanese characters, different from western characters. It's a combination of the second character in the Japanese word for "coffee" and the first character in the Japanese word for world.
Me and my superior chose my name together and I only chose those characters because I found them beautiful.
[ text ]
... Your name is coffee world?
It sounds silly. But I like it. And they do look good together.

why?

... because someone told me my name has meaning. I didn't think that it did.

My name is special because it was given to me by someone precious. But that's not the case for everyone.
But yes, all names have meaning to someone, to answer your question.
What brought this on?
text
I just thought it meant the same as his.
Someone told me my name meant something entirely different than his, though.

so now my name is a unit of force, a famous guy who did stuff with gravity, and me.
names are just words. and words are just sounds. just like letters are just shapes and lines, but we have, as a culture (however broadly you define culture), chosen to give those sounds and shapes and lines a meaning -- and so those words and shapes have meaning. and sometimes those words overlap and the meanings do not -- Newton is a unit of force and also a biologist and also a physicist/mathematician -- and sometimes the meanings overlap and the words do not (the infamous "Eskimos have 50 words for snow" fits here, or just lápiz/Bleistift/鉛筆/pencil all mean that wooden stick with a sharpened piece of carbon in the center and an eraser on the top).
So. Long and short, not to get philosophical, but your name has meaning and the meaning is "you."

I'm not certain what my name means here on Earth [which he very nearly calls the Mystic Moon] but I know that there is power in names beyond their meaning.
Probably because they're things we answer to.
[Which is Van's way of saying Kagerou may not be as wrong as he thinks.]
