[ When the feed comes to life, Hemali is seated on a couch, her legs drawn up and shoulders and neck hunched over. On the coffee table is a small bottle of nail polish, which she goes about applying with precision over her toe nails.

She doesn't glance at the camera right away, letting the silence linger until she's finished painting the nail the way she wants. Then she finally looks up and smiles, but it isn't one offered up in apology for making anyone wait, not that she believes she has anything to apologize for. ]

Isn't this all interesting? I've never seen a device like this or heard of one that could shuffle people from across the universe.

[ Her eyes light up at the thought, masking any concerns she has about the fact there's something with far greater power than she might ever have. ]

Nor have I heard about machines that could grant people power. What I find most strange having looked over this network, is that so many people would give up these powers if it meant leaving this place? I had always thought people preferred being special and having that kind of security. Does your power not provide that?

[ A contemplative pause. ]

Maybe I am a little excited to travel for once, personally.

India has advanced quite a bit, but I never thought I would see a living robot!

We're quite widespread, where I come from. We learn from the humans and culture around us when we are created, just like humans do. [ IT'S COMPLICATED aka he has a human body etc etc but he's not Actually Human ]

Do you have hover technology where you're from? I never know what to expect, at least with who's familiar with what. There's such a variety.

I've never seen it. We have smart phones and internet, of course, but cars that fly? Not at all.

Then we're in the same boat. Though I have to admit - smartphones are new to me, too, though we did have touch screens. It's interesting how technology changes.

But I probably shouldn't talk about that too much, or I'll get carried away. Are you settling in well? You looked comfortable on video, at least.

To answer your question: most people find texting easier, I think? And for one reason or another, they may not want to show anyone what they look like on the network. [ He's kind of one of those people. It's rare for him to communicate via voice unless absolutely necessary. ]

[ That isn't what she wanted, but at least she doesn't have to read anymore. ]

You all need to work on your self-confidence a bit then.

It's easier to disconnect who you are on the network with your physical self, if people can't recognise you in the street. For me, it's an old habit, but for others, it saves trouble.

Also, it's just easier to type, for some. It's not all a matter of self-confidence.

Not as much as I would have liked. I have only traveled across India.
