[ When the feed comes to life, Hemali is seated on a couch, her legs drawn up and shoulders and neck hunched over. On the coffee table is a small bottle of nail polish, which she goes about applying with precision over her toe nails.

She doesn't glance at the camera right away, letting the silence linger until she's finished painting the nail the way she wants. Then she finally looks up and smiles, but it isn't one offered up in apology for making anyone wait, not that she believes she has anything to apologize for. ]

Isn't this all interesting? I've never seen a device like this or heard of one that could shuffle people from across the universe.

[ Her eyes light up at the thought, masking any concerns she has about the fact there's something with far greater power than she might ever have. ]

Nor have I heard about machines that could grant people power. What I find most strange having looked over this network, is that so many people would give up these powers if it meant leaving this place? I had always thought people preferred being special and having that kind of security. Does your power not provide that?

[ A contemplative pause. ]

Maybe I am a little excited to travel for once, personally.

Oh, I quite agree. Panicking tends to lead to the worst outcome in a situation you could possibly have.

I'm glad at least, that when we arrive here it's typically friendly. Though I was called a 'bitch' multiple times by someone who wished to remain anonymous over the communication device.

[ She cocks a brow, glancing at her own communicator to skim over the anonymous conversation she had herself just a few minutes ago. ]

Now that's rude. If you ever find out who they are you should slap them.

I'll absolutely keep that in mind. Whoever it was, was very concerned that I hadn't acclimated right away to being in a new century.

Well, I suppose anyone can do anything anonymously and feel brave.

[ She enjoys her drink with Hemali, nodding toward the hallway. ]

I rarely see our other roommate, and I hardly know when she's actually here.

[ Oh, she knows. If only they dared to say things to their faces. ]

Sara, and the first time we met she was in the bath. Quite unconventional, to address the entire community that way, I think. But then, I'm sure I'm a bit old-fashioned.

She's nice enough, when I do manage to speak to her, but that's rare. Perhaps you'll have better luck than I did.

[ Claire smiles, then moves to stand. ]

I won't keep you from your beauty routine. I'm afraid I have some less interesting reading to do. There's not much to this space, and the only thing I don't contribute to is the cooking. Because trust me, neither of you will want that. Ever.

[ She's going to learn though, she's determined. ]

I hope you don't expect me to cook for you.

[ She may offer eventually, but she is no maid! Though she may want to see how Claire fares with spices at some point. ]

Oh no, not at all. You'll just never want to subject yourself to taste testing when I'm at the helm. Unless I seem confident.
