Playmaker-san asked a good question about if our powers defined us. It's something I've been thinking about lately.
What if you have a power that goes against even your biology?
If it changes something about you that's always been a requirement?
As a Ghoul, I've always had to eat humans to live. There's no other way, it's how Ghouls are. How our bodies work.
But...the Porter has made it so I can eat human food now.
Before it made me sick. It tasted horrible. But now it's good, it doesn't make me weaker to eat it. If I can eat human food to live now, instead of humans...
Does that change who I am? Does it change what I am?
I have always been a Ghoul. I don't know how to be anything else.
[ 'i don't know if i want to be anything else' goes unsaid, but it's there.
thanks for the existential crisis, kidou. ]

My sister was one of the strongest mediums I knew, but she changed her goals and did what she wanted to do, even though it had nothing to do with her powers at all...
You can be whatever you want
and
probably a lot easier, without eating people.
[look she couldn't just NOT ADDRESS the people eating part]
text
But does that mean I'd completely abandon who I always have been?
[ She doesn't even know if she's making sense right now, tbh. Hinami tends to avoid deep thinking. She knows she's been so sheltered that her views are a little strange, on top of...well, how different Ghouls can be from humans. ]
I'm not a Ghoul because it's a power. I'm a Ghoul because Mom was one and Dad was one, because that's my species. Is it an insult to them to be something else now?
text
So it can't be an insult to do the best with what you have, right?

Every human ImPort here has at least one attribute that humans here cannot possibly have. Sometimes... it's something that should be fatal.
Does that make us not human?
text;
It's jut so confusing, that it's changed how my body works.

Nevermind that. It's the rest that he looks at, propping his chin up on one hand before tapping out a reply. ]
Is it so bad to be yourself? Or who or what you identify yourself to be? I would say what you are outwardly, or the things you can do now that you couldn't do before, have those things made you decide you are no longer [ he types human, knowing that's the wrong word, since she just said she's a "Ghoul." Erasing and writing that in, it's... a complicated sentiment. ] Ghoul?

But if even my body works differently now...it's really confusing.

But I don't believe a sudden change like this is going to undo everything you've been through, where you came from, or who you are.
If you think you're a Ghoul you're a Ghoul. You're just going to starve less now.
text; lmfao thanks to maya this post went from serious to hinami just going WHYYYY
she's happy about it too, but it brings up a lot of questions. ]
You say starve less, but
Ken-chan there's so many options just for dessert.
How do humans ever eat anything with so many choices?
[ except she's really stuck in Bewildered Mode at the moment. ]

Well sometimes we're limited by things like allergies and digestive problems and also budgets.
I lived off 130 yen pudding from the local convenience store for two years because I had to pay for things like commuting to school so idk

Humans have quite an expansive choice of foods, and they can choose what they can or can't eat.
But they're all still humans, aren't they?
Maybe you're the first to experience this freedom as a Ghoul. ★
A step forward for your kind isn't such a bad thing, is it?
text;
Mm. What everyone is saying makes sense.
I don't really know how to word it, but... it's like... I never felt any different before I knew...but my body was changed and that... that's weird. IT shouldn't have been possible, and it's really confusing.
text;
But in the end, I think it's up to you to decide what a Ghoul is. You'll always be one to me, Hinami-chan, if that's what you feel most comfortable being.
You're just a Ghoul who I can now buy cookies for.

are you asking if personality is tied to your biological nature?
nature is something uncontrollable. those that try to control nature...they often find their ruin.
you should not live in fear because of your nature. what you do because nature dictates is not your responsibility. and those who try to hold you to responsiblity are ignorant.
text
This power is something that changes something important to what I am...so it's very confusing.
( text )
It isn't easy trying to train yourself but it is something everyone is capable of. I have been a soldier all my life and it is difficult to be here and make play at being something else. It can be done, but effort is required.

And they've come up again only recently.
Having gone to prison here for a couple months, I've had my powers nulled.
For that time, I was effectively human.
Which was something I didn't remember much about, since I'd changed so very long ago.
I guess that what really matters is you try things out.
Find out what works for you now that a new world has been opened to you.
text;
I don't think it's a bad change at all. I guess...it's not something I ever thought could happen, though I did wonder.
