[ Mouse isn't very good at being on camera. He keeps fidgeting and glancing away, down at the rats huddled in his lap and resting on his bare shoulders. A thin tail flicks in front of the camera, and after some encouraging squeaks, Mouse speaks up again, sounding a little more sure of himself. ]

It's getting colder outside, and lots of rats are moving indoors and trying to stay warm. If you see any, don't freak out, and don't call the exterminators or set up traps, okay? I can come get them, and find them a better place to stay.

[ There's a 90% chance that this 'better place' will end up being his bedroom. Sorry, roomies! ]

If you want to be nice, try giving them some baked pumpkin seeds. Not too many though, or they'll get sick.

... I'm Mouse, by the way. Probably should have said that earlier.

I, uh... might have a couple more rats staying in my room. They won't get at the food in the kitchen or anything, I promise.

Not outside, but there's always the air conditioning to consider. I'm not certain how things might fluctuate inside the house with all of us living together.

[coming from a time before AC he's pretty tolerant to various temperatures, but he's not the only one living here. maybe one of the other roomies likes to keep things Antarctic.]

Thank you for letting me know, but you don't need to promise anything a second time! You already gave me your word once, and that's more than enough.

[he trusts him to keep his promise, whether it's with one rat or thirty. there's no need to extract the same oath over and over again.]

Oh! Yeah, I forgot about AC. Regular blankets would probably work, though. Don't need electric, they might chew through the wires.

And it's worth saying twice, y'know?

Ah, that's true. Some of them run on batteries, I believe, but there's no reason to take unnecessary chances.

[it's not like Jonathan knows much about wiring in the first place, after all. he's really got no clue what can and can't be chewed through by a curious animal. just means that he'll pick up a few more fleece blankets instead.]

Do any of you have a favorite color?

[ There's a long, thoughtful pause as he gives the rats a critical stare. ]

... Higgins likes teal, I think. Anything blue-ish is good, I don't think they can really see red or green.

I wouldn't have brought it up in the first place if I didn't mean to. [he laughs kindly] It shouldn't be too difficult, considering how fond this place seems to be of putting ocean scenes on everything.

I'm gonna make them little boats and pirate hats.

... Maybe not boats, they'd just chew up the cardboard.

There's that saying about rats and sinking ships, isn't there? I suppose it's rather apt here.

Yeah, they're great swimmers! They can swim for like three days straight. They'd be awesome pirates, if they didn't eat the boats.

It seems quite a waste not to use that sort of potential; perhaps we ought to look into sturdier materials. They build the larger boats out of metal and the like now, after all.

You think we could find them a pond or something? And a really small boat?

We may have to build the boat ourselves, but at the very least we have the pool in the backyard.

[so, really, the more difficult task is already in the bag.]

I'd wait to see how the boat turns out before celebrating. I've never been particularly good with anything that takes delicacy.

They don't care about delicacy. I got them a little dollhouse furniture set once, and they just chewed up all the chairs. They weren't made of metal though, so the boat will probably be better.

In that case we'll both be learning quite a bit about welding in the near future. That ought to keep us busy for a few weeks!
