On my arrival, I asked myself two questions likely shared by others;

How are our worlds connected?

And whence came the power to steal us outside of time?

You have probably waited patiently for an answer to these questions; or took it upon yourself in desparation to find answers. Do you consider that it is very, very probable the porter has linked hundreds of worlds though they exist leagues and years apart?

Let me conclude. I expect all of our worlds are linked together by some means. Shall there not exist people who believe the same as me?

And I would also like to hear about your systems of magic, if you can graciously spare the time.

I mean...it's not impossible! So maybe that really is how it works. [ But he's new, so he doesn't know for sure that's how it works...but it's as good an explanation as any. If Gaia and Terra can exist linked together like they were, then maybe all these different places can be linked, right? ]

Though it'd be nice, I think! To go to more places than just here. But maybe all the connections just pull here, like a funnel. [ But what would be the point of that? It doesn't seem to be a situation like..before. With the soul replacement.

Magic, though - he can talk about that! ]

Oh, um - well, for magic...there's people who can summon eidolons, which are like...special spirits, I think? And they can heal, and cure poisons, and stuff like that. [ By the way he talks...he sure does admire them. Fond memories. ] It's really neat!

And, um...there's more destructive magic. Like being able to shoot fire, or ice, or lightning. But that's only usable by a few people. [ including him mumble mumble special circumstances ]

And monsters...have their own magic too! Sometimes. I think that's all.

A funnel. I've heard that theory; though it implies this is the world whence all others emerged, and that is something I find hard to believe. When I reflect on the uncountable differences it seems rather farfetched.

But that is fascinating. Do thoese incarnations have particular names?

I don't think this world is where everyone's worlds came from. That'd be kind of weird, I think! But I guess they must be linked somehow...even though I don't really know how. [ He's...he's trying... ]

Oh! The eidolons? Well, um...there's Leviathan...and Shiva...and, um. I guess the big robot, with the wings, but I think that's special? [ He will never forget the sight of a castle sprouting wings, holy shit. ] And Ifrit...and Atomos...which was kind of just a big mouth? [ He always thought that one was kind of gross?? ] There's more, but...I can't remember all of them right now.

Oh, and Eiko had different ones! Like...there was a little one called Carbuncle. And a big bird called Phoenix. [ He could probably draw them for Victor, but he's having a bit of trouble with the names...he's only nine.

As for Madeen...that's kind of a more personal one for Eiko, so he's not sure if it's okay to say anything about it. ]

[ He still doesn't overly like using this device to write. Modern technology has its uses, but Damen can't help resentng it a little, just for the fact of being different from what he knows. His answers are brusque as a result. ]

There is no magic in my world.

It may be that the Porter links our worlds. That's easier to believe than that we are brought by random chance. But I must ask - what difference does it make? The result is the same either way.

It makes a tremendous difference. Which is this; we should be capable of stepping through the Porter and returning home. Should we uncover how this link is formed then we can augment it to reverse the flow of traffic. A great difference in result to lingering here, I'm sure.

[Oh. That's... a lot of names and talking. It's all good, very good, but it isn't what he's after. He will save it for another time and rephrase himself in the present.]

Fascinating. You will probably find it fascinating that similiar beings exist on my world, under the auspice of different names. But my inquiry was aimed at your more destructive magic. My apologies.

We know that we can return. They have said so all along.

Others have been here for years, but have not found the way to control the Porter. It cannot be so easy as it sounds.

[ He talks a lot. Part of it is to distract himself from how he's used to having people around him, that know him. A lot of it is because he's a kid who seesaws between 'quiet' and 'cramming in as many words as possible to try and be helpful'.

His voice gets a bit quieter at the specification. But he did start the conversation, so it's only fair. ]

Oh...

Um, well...they're just spells, I guess? Like...um, Fira, and Blizzara, and things like that. [ He doesn't quite know how he knows them, but he does. The staves he carried name them for him, and he wonders if there were other black mages once upon a time. Old and gone, like the summoners of Eiko and Garnet's home town, but long, long past. People who didn't even leave traces on the world (or if they did, they're long lost) apart from the tools they once used, the fragmented speech they once learned.

It makes him feel so lost, reflecting on it. But he shakes it off. ] Are the names the same for you, too? Like the eidolons?

Isn't magic like pulling a rabbit out of a hat or figuring out what card you have in mind?

And I guess the connected world thing makes sense but I don't see how people from different planets would be linked.

The question of people being linked is not one I am hypothesizing. I question only the connection between our worlds; should it exist and whether others believe the same. Yet, it seems you were drawn to interpret otherwise. My apologies.

And I would clarify that magic is not quite so mundane. Ah! I would call those parlor tricks, really...

You might think so; but I suppose those people were distracted by acclimatizing to their new lives. God knows the necessary level of study requires us to tie our souls to such work. Difficult tasks become easier with teamwork, do they not?

And so you believe you can do a better job than they?

[ That's perhaps just a touch arrogant. Damen's not been the one trapped here for years, though. ]

If you can, I would not complain. Do you have any idea of where to start?

You might think so, but I do not believe it. A God, if it may be called so, would not require our presence to solve the common problem that is war. If that is indeed its purpose. I suppose that is your answer to my second question, though?

[Of course he has an idea. Because he can do better.]

I would inspect the Porter, if that act would be permitted. Though I hardly suppose it would. Indeed, she hardly deigns herself to speak to anyone. But should not a powerful, natural force be brought to bear for the benefit of humanity? I certainly believe it possible that it could be...

What kind of benefit?

[ In a way, the arrival of imports in itself could be a benefit. Particularly given the powers they are given. Damen can see that, but he is fairly sure that's not what Victor means. ]

What is magic like in your world then?

You don't need to apologize!! I should be the one since honestly it's kind of difficult for me to wrap my head around it.

Pretty sure there's someone somewhere who actually theorized that kinda thing.

I bet "reality" is kinda like a hallway in an apartment, you know? Like, the realities that are close to each other have similar things happening, or parts of one just kinda bleed into another. Like... maybe someone's life story here is a movie in my reality, for example?

The porters just happen to be able to take a part of a hallway and stick it somewhere else.

Magic, where I come from, is wicked. Simple as that.

I think I agree. The way I see it, if there are hundreds or thousands or millions of worlds out there, why would this be the only one with something like the Porter?

No. Alas, I am unfamiliar with either. I would ask you to explain your point, in that case?

That, then, is a terrible thing. Though people are fond of terming wicked work which they deem sacrilige. Why might your explanation be so?

My mind is always thus. Surely that is not a bad thing?
