[ Tyrion tends to prefer voice simply because video at first deeply unnerved him, but even though it has taken him weeks he has finally grown used enough to the devices to be confident in their use, and he has decided therefore to send his own message out. His face, as it appears, is twisted and scarred beneath the explosion of dark beard, at odds with his tousled blond curls — but, truly the best thing about this sort of communication, his height is not apparent. ]
Good evening.
[ A pause as he considers if that was foolish: it may be evening for him now, but might not be when others watch the video ... nevertheless he perseveres. ]
I've been learning a little about the civics of this world. I must say, it makes a great deal more sense to me than simply allowing a man to rule by the mandate of his birth. And yet I cannot help but wonder if this "democratic process" works quite as well in reality as it does on paper. What is to stop one man simply rising through duplicity? By all accounts the position of an imPort Ambassadorship is effectively for life.
[ Not naming any names! Just something to consider!! It's not like there are any elections on right now, he's simply a concerned citizen.
Anyway, he seems to realize he monologued a bit and smiles ruefully. ]
It's very easy to get carried away speaking to these things, isn't it? I will keep my second inquiry brief: were I interested in aquiring the services of someone to safeguard my person or property, where would I best start? I would prefer someone familiar with this world's "technology" as well as skilled in combat.
[ Because he is bad. As demonstrated by the fact that he forgets to turn the video off and there is another five minutes of him quietly reading a book and sipping wine before the message ends. ]

[ Look! Kitty is no longer a cat or a hedgehog. She is, instead, a girl with bright eyes and a forthright, matter-of-fact manner. ]
It's not a perfect process, unfortunately - democracy, I mean. Because, yeah, no system that involves human beings is ever going to be perfect. Still, like you said, better than the alternative.

Yes, I suppose so long as they're doing their jobs they don't exactly need to be ousted. It just seemed a little odd compared to some of the other elected positions I've been reading about. But really, anyone who wants to be in power seems somewhat suspicious to me.

God, too right, that. But then again, someone who doesn't want to be in power probably isn't going to be very good at it, are they.

[But Han leans in, all casual-like, upon the second question. He's got more than enough experience in his own galaxy's tech that this world's devices aren't too hard to figure out, for all that they're a tad less advanced than what he's used to in some aspects.]
Depends, I'd say. Why, you in the market for a bodyguard?
permavid;
I am indeed. I find I truly miss the comforting thought of knowing someone else can do my fighting for me.

What's the pay like?

In that way, perhaps they’re similar. Tyrion compensates for his lack of height with knowledge, while Theon compensates for his self-loathing and confused identity with cruel japes, sly smiles and laughter. If you can’t change just how lost you feel on the inside, you may as well appear confident on the outside.
Allow him to demonstrate that now, as he begins his response with his trademark smirk. ]
Can’t take care of yourself, imp?
voice;
Oh, my, that is something to keep in mind, isn't it? But Miles has yet to exhibit such dangerous quality as an Ambassador.
video;
[and having peeked behind the Ambassadorial curtain (hell, if he takes the metaphor further, he even helped hang one up), Rincewind feels he has some authority on this topic.]
But don't let them hear you say so. Some here take their democracy as their religion, and believers tend to dislike the opinion of heretics.

[ He's amused though. No offense taken, despite being an ambassador. ]

You have already realized the great hazard of democracy. It allows the masses to express their will freely... even if that will is toward foolishness and delusion.
As to your second question... I have found that the Dendarii Security corporation offers imPort bodyguards of a very high quality. However, I do not know what their current situation is, now that one of their founders is Ambassador to Nonah.

[Cue wave.]
It actually does have a lot of the problems you describe. As Winston Churchhill said, "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the other ones."
[Okay, so she's slightly paraphrasing, but whatever.]
As for protection, you might want to check with other ImPorts, first. Usually a search on the internet will help, if you're familiar with that yet.

Has someone been bothering you?

[He's saying that as the former Lord Commander.]
Depending how long we are kept here, we will have to contend with Littlefinger in a position of power. It would be wise for us to support a better suited rival to protect our interests.
[Look how he's learning to play the game. It's his first steps.]
I'd offer you my blade, but I think it might be occupied, given what I intend to do.

[ Some months ago she would defend the elvin Council, but now Sophie knows best. Sometimes she wishes she didn't. ]
And there's plenty of mercenary types around, I think.
