so I've got a question: this registration thing.
that's usually bad back home, how is it here?

There are certainly benefits to it, and while the government hasn't pressed us into service because of that allegiance I wouldn't be so naive to say that it may never happen. It's useful all the same, especially if you need something to lean on while you get your feet beneath you.

[it was why Jonathan had registered initially, and the feeling that he could do some good in their system kept him that way. it was hardly a binding contract, however - if he felt moving against their edicts was the right thing to do, he'd go without a moment's hesitation.]

Something to consider is that whether you register or not, there are nanites in your blood. At present there is no way to be truly free of the government.

how many people do you think would fight back if they tried conscription?

I read about those. not too thrilled with that... are those what give us these abilities?

Nearly all of them, I'd think. Whether we sympathize with their need for aid or not, no one should be forced to fight a cause they don't believe in.

No, apparently those are entirely the Porter's doing. The nanites are responsible for reviving you should you die.
