UMA MYSTERY!!! 😼 The Pilot ( backdated before April 6th )

[ We interrupt your regularly scheduled network yammerings to bring you this super duper top secret important bulletin. Brought to you by an excited Chico Libre on the beach and ready for some cryptid investigations!!!

It starts with a poorly focused picture of some sort of creature that's breached the ocean's surface. Then it slooowly zooms in for dramatic effect as Chico starts his monologue. ]



For years, a secret has been swimming through the oceans of Heropa unseen. Until now. This is the only known photo taken of this so-called "Sharpedo"—Half shark, half torpedo. Apparently. Little else has been discovered, but what we do know is it is something like a familiar in service to a witch!

[ Then the camera turns around to Chico in his patrol cap and a plain drab olive shirt as he stands on the beach. Behind him is an oblivious Alfie Solomons who eventually slinks out of the shot to avoid being part of this nonsense. ]

I am Chico, and I will find out the truth about this legendary UMA that prowls the Heropa seas! Stay tuned for updates!

Well, it's possible! A familiar can be a lot of things. Why not a shark?

[ Yeah, he's going to defend this hypothesis to the death until proven otherwise. ]

Though... It really limits the witch doesn't it. They would really have to love the ocean. Or live right by it...

[ Hey, it's an interesting thought experiment, anyway. ]

Or have a really deep swimming pool. [ He taps his chin thoughtfully, like someone who is inordinately proud of the dad joke he's about to deliver. ] Say, if they lived on the beach, would that make them a sandwitch?

[ And this is the laugh of a child being polite. ] Maybe. But from what intel I've gathered... I don't think he's a witch anymore.

What's an UMA? Better yet, what is a torpedo? And what does it have to do with a witch? I don't get it...

A UMA is an Unidentified Mysterious Animal. Some people call them cryptids. You know, like Bigfoot or Chupacabras!

As for a torpedo... [ He's not sure how someone doesn't know what a torpedo is. Maybe it's because she's a girl. ] It's artillery from a submarine. Very dangerous, but it's got nothing to do with witches, exactly.

It's more... the creature somehow fused with a torpedo likely—Probably because of radiation or atomic power—And now it's controlled by someone.

( voice )

I've never heard of Bigfoot or Chupa-whatever you just said a minute ago. But, by cryptids, you mean thinks like fairies, angels, witches, wizards, and so on, right? [In the very least, those would be the closest things to crptids in 18th Century standards from another version of Earth.

She'll listen to his rough explanation of a torpedo, submarine, and other words she guesses are some form of advance technology that is common in the current time period. There won't be any questions about each, but instead she'll concentrate on the subject at hand.]

That poor shark. I hope the fusion didn't harm them. Is it the only one of its kind, do you think? I know deep in Heropa's ocean are filled with them. Sharks, that is. They rarely come to the shallow ends unless its starving and having trouble finding food or due to the season. You don't think it may be searching for its original owner? [If it's a familiar, it may be trying to now that she thinks about it.]

If it's a familiar, the witch or warlock would have to be pretty close by to control it, and they'd have to be really powerful to be able to control a sea monster like that from the shore... unless they were on a boat, maybe.

What's a torpedo, by the way?

Yeah, exactly! [ See? Someone gets it. ] A torpedo's an underwater missile, usually fired from a submarine.

Seems to be! Of course, I haven't seen it up close and personal just yet. I'm working on it, though!

[ raven doesn't understand what she's seeing. being from space and being so far from the sea means that she only has the books and stories she's read and heard from the ark and mount weather to depend upon. she leans a little closer to her phone before she sits back, brows creased as she tries to understand what exactly is happening. ]

[ sorry, chico, raven doesn't quite know anything that isn't surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. ]

A friend showed me a photograph! We've tracked it to the ocean and I'm currently in pursuit.
