Mother's day has come and gone. It was my first mother's day here. I never got to see where my mother's ashes were scattered. And now I never will. It's made me think of other ways to remember her.

[She holds up a sketch she made of her mother, climbing a mountain.]

That's her. I drew her going up Eagle Mountain. It was a trip we were planning to make, before...

[Her voice trails off and she puts the sketch down.]

Well, before.

[She pauses and blinks a few times, keeping herself from crying.]

I have a power with a harpsichord. One of the things I can do is help people recall good memories. Or make the bad ones less painful. I can't use it on myself. It only works on others. So if anyone wants to remember the good things about the people you've lost, or to get beyond some bad memories, I can try to help you.

[It isn't entirely selfless. She's hoping someone out there can offer to help with her memories too.]

[ mothers aren't an easy topic for her, but seeing and hearing how this woman remembers hers with fondness eases the tension that's settled into her shoulders. she has an idea of what mother's day is, but it's a concept she's purposefully outrun. why would she want to run into its arms when her mother has done nothing to deserve such fondness? ]

[ but she remembers how alie had taken her painful memories, and she hadn't remembered her mother at all. ]

I think sometimes you need those painful memories to keep yourself grounded. Doesn't mean they don't hurt like a bitch sometimes, but it doesn't make you any less strong to feel it, you know?

She was very nurturing and comforted me when she could. She was supportive and loyal to me and my dad. People didn't always understand how she could be loyal to both of us, but she was. She tried to protect me in the only ways she knew.
