So. What is the big deal about turning eighteen anyway? What do you do then? I mean. Sure. University or whatever, I'm looking into that. It's not all that different from being seventeen is it? I dunno on having some massive party or anything.

I could see how it might be a big deal back home, but. Not so much here, I guess.

You sound like Guren lamenting how 'old' he is.
And he really isn't. He's only like eight years older than I am.

I dunno. Not me specifically. Not yet anyway. Doesn't mean I wouldn't expect Mika or Nike to plot something and drag me off somewhere.

So this Guren is what, twenty-six? You can tell him that he isn't old in the slightest. And that's from someone in their forties :)

If they're your mates, there's probably a high chance they've already got something in mind.

Well. He'd still be 24 back home. Since I've been here a while by now. And time not mattering how long we spend here, or whatever. But yeah. He took me in when I was twelve, so he would have been about 20 back then.

Probably. I wouldn't put it past them, anyway.

Oh. Sorry, I thought he was here as well from the way you were talking. He sounds like a good bloke, taking you in and all that.

Yeah. I mean. He didn't have to.
But he saved me. Can't say I'd figure that just anyone would take in a snot-nosed brat that wasn't theirs.

[One that wasn't theirs. One that had so recently been through such trauma. Let alone the earlier trauma of what happened with his parents.]

I'm sure he didn't see you that way. Like you said, not just anyone would take in a child and especially at his age. Did he know you before he took you in?

I didn't know him before. He just found me when I was escaping from the vampires and took me back with him to headquarters.

[Which probably seems strange to say given Yuu himself being a vampire now but. He wasn't turned as young as Mika was.]

Sorry, what? Vampires?

The vampires were always around.
They just took advantage when there was this virus that killed off most of the adults, the teenagers, to take over then. But I managed to run and Guren found me and took me in.

Jesus. Sometimes I forget how different all our worlds are. Vampires don't exist in my world, except for the films where they are the heartthrob for some reason. It doesn't make any sense to me.

But it sounds like a dangerous life. Are they still around now?

'Heart throb'? But ah, yeah. There's a war between the vampires and humans back home with the humans wanting to take back control. However that's going to shake out.

And there's vampires here too.

[Yuu himself being one now. But even without counting him, there's a couple of vampires from home here. Let alone those from other worlds too.]

Yeah. I think it started with the Twilight films. If this fad is still around in ten years, I'm sure I'll hear all about it from my daughter.

Really? I know about Kanaya needing blood, but that's about it. How many are there?

That's the ones with the sparkling vampires right?
That was stupid.

But there's at least four more that I know of.

[Himself, Mika, Krul and Lestat, anyway. And possibly others too.]
