So. What is the big deal about turning eighteen anyway? What do you do then? I mean. Sure. University or whatever, I'm looking into that. It's not all that different from being seventeen is it? I dunno on having some massive party or anything.

I could see how it might be a big deal back home, but. Not so much here, I guess.

Y-yeah. I mean, you have to study to be a social worker or with working with kids in general. Be qualified or whatever. If I wanted to help other kids like us. So. I'm looking into it.

[Whether or not he would manage the study, whether he would be allowed, being a vampire, well. They'd see. But this is something Yuu had been talking about for a while now.]

[Study? Well, perhaps in the human world. Mika supposes it makes sense to reign people in so they don't succumb to their baser desires and ends up experimenting on those who are weaker than themselves. But Yuu? He wasn't anything like that. An education like that would only teach him what he already knew.]

Why? It seems like as long as you have a good heart, raising kids isn't that difficult.

I think even back home, at least, before....you know. They probably had to study or meet some sort of regulations or whatever. I figure, especially if I manage one of those scholarships? I'd be able to figure what I need to do for it here. To help the kids here that need it. Things here are different. Besides, we were just kids ourselves when we were trying to look out for the others in Sanguinem.

[That and, well. Yuu is more in control now. Less prone to his tsundere moments and more open with his affections in comparison to back then. That probably helps. It's true though, at least, that the practical aspect of it, Yuu probably has that down. It would likely just be the theory around it he would need to learn, really.]

I guess that's something then. If it gets people off of my back about my age. It wasn't such a big deal back home, I mean they let me join the military when I was sixteen.

I dunno. I don't really have anything planned. Wouldn't put it past Mika or Nike to probably be plotting something behind my back though. So I guess we'll see?

You really think we'd still be here?

It doesn't seem like a big deal but you can get married, vote, get a tattoo and buy a house without parental consent once you turn eighteen. But mostly it's just an excuse to go to the bar and get pissed with your mates.

Hm. We already have a place. But nice to note on the voting, I guess. And the tattoo. Don't think going to a bar will be happening,
but still.

It's definitely been hyped up a lot in recent years. When I was eighteen, I just got a card, some money and went to the pub. That was a very long time ago though.

It just seems like it's one of the 'big' birthdays. When you start school, when you're sixteen and then eighteen and twenty-one. From what I've gathered.

Not today. But in a couple weeks it will be.

It means you got to be alive for 18 years. I didn't do anything to celebrate mine, to be honest, but I do plan to celebrate my birthdays here.

Since you're here, you can do whatever you want. I have a job and I've thought about going back to school.

Yeah I'm not sure I remember celebrating at least one of my birthdays at least.

Yeah. I've been looking into like, social work or an orphanage or something to help kids here. I'd just need to get qualified or whatever. Even though I was helping look after the younger kids when I was like, eight, back home.

You should do something special. Something you like.

That's a noble cause. I'm an orphan. I know those kids need the support. I think you'll need a degree first, but you could probably volunteer or something while you work on it.

i believe people simply enjoy the figurative turn to adulthood. it's not as though you can truly know when you've reached that point, and often you grow through a trial or hardship there's no reason to celebrate.

here though, if it's anything like my florida, there's little to be done at eighteen. buying cigarettes, though i recommend against that habit.

Still. Another year. It's something, considering everything back home. I wouldn't have figured on making it even this far.

that's a rather morbid thought process for someone so young. was your home a dangerous one?
