[ When the feed clicks on, at first the only thing visible is a swatch of gray and red shirt, zoomed in close enough to be blurry. A second later, the person filming zooms out enough to reveal a skinny girl with short, curly hair and a serious expression, staring unblinking into the camera. ]

Hello. [ Her voice is quiet, cautious, and she sounds a bit like she's reading a prepared script and not totally confident in it, but she's soldiering on anyway. ]

My name is Eleven. [ A short pause—she knows it's not a normal name—before she continues. ] I was here before. Twenty four days. Then I went home. 327 days. Now I have questions. [ Very, very important questions. ] Is there school? What is "intern"? Where are the Eggos? [ Very important questions, y'all. And with that, not bothering to give a farewell, she reaches out and turns off the video feed. ]

( Immediate video is not an allowance she can easily make, and so she doesn't make it for Eleven. At least, as she starts typing out a text reply, she doesn't make it, but then she just sits for a moment. Eleven is very young. Younger than they had been in Helsinki, but no less vulnerable.

MK, herself, is different from the last time they spoke. She switches the feed to video, swallows, and her hand itches to reach for her sheep mask and pull it on. She resists.

Her face is older than last time she and Eleven spoke; twenty-nine instead of seventeen. The default background she pulls up is still there - pastel kaleidoscopes, framing her outline as she leans in to the camera. )

Eleven. This was not careful.

( A pause, and after considering that maybe wasn't very friendly, ) It is good to see you.

( She doesn't usually get friends she lost back. )
