I got a question for people that... know more about powers.

[Blue frowns, chin in hand. There's a new Pokemon sitting on the counter next to him, small and fox-like, grooming its paw. It glances up at the feed with a curious “vui”?]

When I look at people, something pops up in my head. Some other people told me it's like... 'scanning'. I don't know what to call it or what it means, but when it happens, it makes me see people as Pokemon types. Like how Arcanine is a Fire-type. Or Eevee here is a Normal-type. [He gestures to the little creature beside him.] But people don't have types, back home.

I mean, of course this place is nuts, so weird stuff happens. But how do I figure out what these 'powers' I got are supposed to do? How do I know what it means?? I've been here this long and I still have no idea.

--Oh yeah, speaking of Arcanine, here. Check this out!

[At the end of the post there's an additional link with an embedded video. The video shows a big pile of leaves- for a few seconds, nothing happens, but soon there's a pattering of.. is that hooves? Nope, the big blur of furry orange that is Arcanine slams right into the pile, sending it scattering. Look at him romp through the leaves! What a big, happy dog.]

That's a pretty great strategy.

[Blue smirks] ...I've never heard of a Pokémon that can do that, strictly, but there's a move... It's something of a specialty of mine. Trick Room- it reverses speeds. I guess you could say that it has something of a similar effect to that. There are Pokémon that can do things like that.

I'd like to hear of any cool strategies you think up with that kind of ability! [An innocent request, really!]

Pokémon really have a wide range, huh?

[ He's.... heard of them before, but telling a guy that seems to come from a world of 'em that they're video game characters strikes Shinjiro as a bad idea. ]

Anyway, I've only used that power a couple of times at most. So I don't really got any strategies right now.

Yeah, that's right! [Blue is... excited!? You got him excited, Shinji. He just loves talking about the things Pokémon can do.] Even between Pokémon of the same type, you have Pokémon whose strengths in attacks or defenses differ, or Pokémon who excel in special strategies like using poison or trapping moves. There's hundreds and hundreds of different kinds, and they all have their own strengths.

Pretty amazing, isn't it?

[He chinhands for a second, then shrugs.] Oh yeah? Maybe I can give you some, haha.

So you've really got to get to know each of 'em in order to know which one's best for what situation. Yeah, they sound pretty cool.

[ The corner of Shinjiro's lips tug into an almost-smile. ]

And you can give me all the tips you want, but I don't fight very often.

[ Anymore. ]

You've got it exactly! [Blue gives a little salute? What a weirdo, but whatever, he's excited.] That's why I catch and train as many as I can, to learn about their battle potential and experience as many different combinations of strengths as I can! I'm going to master every Pokémon in the world. That's my goal as a Pokémon trainer, and a Champ.

--Well, anyway, [He rubs his nose] Fighting between people is something different anyway. I don't blame you. I don't want any part of that, but this place is whack.

...It's probably inevitable, so I'll... have to start thinking of strategies that will keep my Pokémon safe, too. [That's what he's decided, since he got Ported back in.]

You're really close to your Pokémon, aren't you?

Every trainer should be.

[He shrugs, although it's more that he's trying to cover how strongly he felt about this- especially nowadays that he really had learned that lesson.] That's where the real power of trained Pokémon comes from. Without trust between trainer and Pokémon, you miss out on their true strengths. That's why you gotta learn everything about them, experience it training with them, not just statistics and facts.

--You meet a guy named Red? You were at Yusuke's party, right?

I saw him— and you— at the party, but I pretty much stuck to the wall most of the time.

Yeah........ Well, I was pretty drunk the whole time anyway, hahaha. [Sheepish grin] I guess I should introduce myself properly since I didn't there, huh? I'm Blue.

Anyway, Red is the guy to talk to 'bout that stuff. He's kinda like, the expert on befriending Pokémon, bringing out their strengths like that. I learned all that stuff from battling him all the time.

[ Shinjiro noticed the drunkenness, but decides it'd be rude to point it out. Blue was not subtle. ]

I'm Shinjiro Aragaki. And I'm guessing you two are from the same place, then.

[~~Light him up like a Christmas tree, Shinji~~]

[Blue nods, glancing away from the video slightly.] Yeah. Well... Exactly that, actually. We grew up together.

[Though judging by the sudden shyness, it was a little more than just that.]

[ Shinjiro's own expression grows a little softer at that. ]

Yeah? A bond like that's something real special.

[Blue's mouth tightens and his cheeks actually pink at that, so that he doesn't answer right away.]

Mmph... [The little grunt of agreement is the only sound he manages to make at that moment before he manages to force it down, quickly changing the subject]

--Anyway, that time power you got seems like you could use it to escape from danger. I'm kinda jealous, but I made this post cuz I don't really get how I can use my power when I don't even understand what it's supposed to mean. I guess I should start to ask people about powers and figure out if there's a real connection...

Do you think it's possible some of our powers aren't supposed to "mean" anything? It might just be like flavour text only you can see.

Ah... well...

[He sure does already know about getting useless powers. Stupid music. Man, is this power useless, too!?] ...Maybe.

Can't I get even one good power...?

[ He feels kind of bad when he sees Blue's reaction. ]

....I could be wrong about that. It's just a theory, at any rate.

[That reaction is too good for him, Shinjiro. In any case, he recovers quickly from deflating and shrugs.]

Yeah, that seems to be all I got about my power. I was wondering if anyone around here had a power to figure out exactly what other people's powers were, but...

Well. I guess I gotta just start testing it to be sure. Heh, how about I guess what your Type is, huh? I was definitely way too blasted at the party to notice. [He snickers] With a power like yours... How about Psychic?

--Though I guess I won't know unless I saw you again in person.

Who knows? Maybe somewhere does have that power.

[ Shinjiro shrugs. ]

Anyway, if I ever see you in person again, feel free to tell me what Type I am. I'm kind of curious.

Yeah... I wish I could find them, if there is.

--Ah, but I'll be sure to remember it! Maybe the next big party, haha. You can count on me t'be there!

[And maybe this time he won't be too hammered to remember.]
