The Giving of Thanks [text]

I am seeking further information regarding this festival of the Giving of Thanks. I understand that it is traditional to host a feast, and I would be glad to do so, however, I currently have no kitchen staff. How might I go about hiring a cook? And where is the best place to hunt for these turkeys? Also, what exactly is a yam?

Yams are similar to potatoes but a little bit sweeter, and yellowish-orange.

You can buy turkeys! SO much easier than hunting them. The ones on farms are fatter, and are bred to have more meat and taste better.

If you don't cook, I... can't help you. I'm from modern times and I can't cook.

Last I knew, turkeys were bought not hunted.
If you had the money for your own personal staff, I assume hunting was your sport of choice.

No choice. Times like these, hunting's a luxury. Lots of people can't afford basic food.

I suppose with the question of turkeys and yams having been answered, that just leaves finding a cook.

I am by no means a professional, but I nevertheless have some talent in the way of cooking. I could help if you'd like.

[Does spit roasting monstrously large game over an open fire for a sizable band of thieves count as preparing a feast?

Probably not...

But he's helped his human mother prepare large meals numerous times, and few are bound to know as much about herbs and seasonings as he does. That has to count for something.]

I wouldn't say I am entirely without experience, though much of what I am familiar with cooking is more rustic or Japanese in nature.

But if there is something specific you desire and you have a recipe, or even the gist of one, I could work from that.

Do you have a hunting license and a rifle?

Yams are like sweet potatoes.

The laws here usually require you to have a hunting license before you can hunt. You might need a turkey permit too. They might be hard to get in time for Thanksgiving.

A rifle is a firearm. Do you have a different weapon to hunt with?

Sweet potatoes are an orange-colored root vegetable. They can be cooked in many different ways - baked, roasted, mashed, pureed. They can be in soups, pies, casseroles, a gratin with apples, in a chicken curry, made into gnocchi, etc.

I believe Thanksgiving is based on the friendship between natives and pilgrims in the American realm. It does not have anything to do with the North.
